TIL The star Betelgeuse has been recorded since Chinese antiquity, with notes of the star then being yellow, by the time of Ptolemy it was orange, and now red. The star is the tenth brightest in the sky and expected to go supernova in the next 100,000 years.

Some nice pieces there. Right now, SD 2.0 is lawyerly neutered (removed so much from trained image library, it's been lobotomized) and subpar (Use SD 1.5, until unofficial trained models restore 2.0's ability), but honestly MidJourney v4 is beating SD for general "wow factor" with basic prompts (The development cycle is so fast, by end of year, might be different best of breed)
A friend of mine used SD to create images of me as my Pathfinder (a roleplaying game like D&D) character.

An example of MJ 4.0, mixing AetherCzar and Doc Brown, no upscaling, no prompt words, no styling, just "hey, mix these together"

It's remarkable what the AI image creation algorithms can do.
One of the understudied causes of the mass hysteria which broke out in 2020 is the deification of mathematical models. We were promised certain doom by Neil Ferguson from the Imperial College London and The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. Politicians and media outlets took every graph they created as if it were directly from the Oracle of Delphi. They were prophetic utterances! “Thus saith The Experts, The Science’s wrath is upon, let us distance and muzzle ourselves in penance!”

During Marcum’s second, and last, appearance on Bell’s show in 1996, he said he was 30 days away from completing his “legal” time machine.

Mike Marcum vanished in 1997 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Shortly after Marcum disappeared a listener called the Art Bell show to talk about a strange story he had found. In the 1930s police found a dead man on a beach in California.

He was crushed to death in a strange metal tube, the man was unrecognizable and a mysterious device was found near his body. The caller said the device looked like a cell phone.

So, I have been contacted by a handful of readers now who have told me that going on or off the pill seems to have impacted their sexual preferences. And it’s not just in a “my pill seems to have impacted the qualities I desire in my male partners” kind of way. It’s in a “I identified as a lesbian for a decade while I was on the pill, but now that I am off it, I am no longer attracted to women, but attracted to men.” And I have also heard the opposite. In these cases, the emails read something along the lines of “I identified as a lesbian until I went on the pill, but after going on it, I developed attraction to men”.

“All that the unsuspecting Bilbo saw that morning was an old man with a staff. He had a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, a silver scarf over which his long white beard hung down below his waist, and immense black boots.

"Good morning!" said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green. But Gandalf looked at him from under long bushy eyebrows that stuck out further than the brim of his shady hat.

"What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I wish it or not or that you feel good this morning or that it is a morning to be good on?"

"All of them at once," said Bilbo. "And a very fine morning for a pipe of tobacco out of doors, into the bargain." Then Bilbo sat down on a seat by his door, crossed his legs, and blew out a beautiful grey ring of smoke that sailed up into the air without breaking and floated away over The Hill.” - The Hobbit
