Spider web construction begins with liquid silk being produced in the spider’s internal silk glands. Each silk gland has a faucet-like structure called a spigot which is located on the surface of the spider’s spinnerets. Spinnerets are located on the tip of the spider’s abdomen and spiders typically use their legs to tug silk out of the spinnerets. Spiders sometimes eat their silken webs and use that silk to remake new silk.

❗️🇺🇸🌪 The tornado in Mississippi has already killed 23 people.

You can see why, even though tornado warnings are usually a false alarm, we take them very seriously. We caught the tail end of that storm and spent fifteen minutes in our shelter early this morning with all the pets, just in case, because there was a report of a tornado heading our way.

Heartbreaking! The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency tweeted early Saturday that at least 23 people were confirmed to be dead and dozens more were injured after the storm tore across the state Friday evening, damaging buildings and knocking out power for tens of thousands of residents. 

"We can confirm 23 dead, dozens injured, four missing due to last night's tornadoes," it said. "We have numerous local and state search and rescue teams that continue to work this morning. A number of assets are on the ground to assist those that have been impacted."

❄️ While it looks like the entire bubble is freezing, the bubble is actually comprised of three layers of liquid. There is a layer of water sandwiched between two layers of bubble solution. The bubble’s surface and interior layer don’t freeze. The middle water layer is the portion that freezes and forms those crystalline patterns during the experiment as it freezes at a higher temperature than soapy water.⁠

The colder the better is the motto when it comes to making frozen bubbles. Technically, you can make frozen bubbles at any temperature below freezing. However, cold temps close to freezing can mean the bubble takes a long time to freeze. It will then most likely pop before it can fully freeze. The lower the temperature, the better and faster the bubble freeze.⁠
