🇱🇾 Over 200 illegal migrants deported to home countries from Libya

Libya on Thursday (Nov. 24) expelled more than 200 migrants who'd entered its terrtory illegaly.

Embassy staff from the migrants' home nations watched the process. The group of returnees included "105 Egyptians, 101 Chadians and 20 Sudanese".

Libya is a much travelled by route for people fleeing conflict and poverty across the continent, seeking refuge across the Mediterranean in Europe.

International observers have announced that no irregularities were recorded in the November 20 elections in Equatorial Guinea.

Preliminary reports by observers from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) stated that "the electoral process took place in an atmosphere of peace" and "no irregularities" were recorded.

African leaders meeting in Niger's capital Niamey have called for a doubling of efforts to promote industrialization in Africa.

The leaders also urged increased private sector participation areas such as agriculture, agro-industry, health, education, infrastructure, and especially energy, which are key to advancing industry.

The summit later held a discussion on trade with a focus on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The alleged rationing of the days of selling petrol among some petroleum products marketers who have formed cartels has worsened the petrol scarcity currently rocking Lagos, Abuja and other cities in the country.

The marketing companies had through their umbrella associations allegedly put the secret rationing rule that ensures that members sell petrol on the days allocated to them.

According to a source, to ensure compliance to the rule, the marketers, whose turn it is not to sell on a particular date resort to hoarding the product in the day time while selling to black marketers at night and above approved price.

🇳🇬 In Nigeria, gunmen kill three policemen, kidnap oil manager

A group of gunmen killed three police escorts and kidnapped the manager of a Nigerian oil company in southeastern Nigeria, the latest incident in the region, police said Friday.

Dressed in military uniforms, the attackers ambushed and fired on the convoy of a senior oil executive in the Rumuokoro area of Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State and Nigeria's oil capital, on Thursday.

"Three policemen escorting the executive were killed while the man was kidnapped and taken to an unknown location," regional police spokeswoman Grace Iringe-Koko told.

An investigation is underway.

Gunmen on Friday killed 15 people in multiple attacks in northwest Nigeria's Kaduna state, the latest violence in the volatile region, a government official said.

🇨🇩 Congo's M23 rebels ask for dialogue after states declare ceasefire

Democratic Republic of Congo's M23 rebel group on Friday said it wants to talk directly with the government after Congo's president and other African leaders signed a ceasefire deal aimed at stopping attacks by the militia.

Leaders of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Angola met this week in Luanda to find a solution to the conflict in eastern Congo, which has forced thousands to flee their homes.

They signed an agreement saying they would enforce a ceasefire from Friday, and said regional troops would intervene against the M23 if it did not withdraw from its positions.
