Zippyshare Quits After 17 Years, 45m Visits Per Month Makes No Money

After almost 17 years online, file-hosting veteran Zippyshare will shut down at the end of the month. Founded in 2006, Zippyshare was known for its free, no-nonsense, no-frills approach to storing files online. Having changed very little over the years, Zippyshare's operators say the platform is now a dinosaur that costs too much to run in a world where ad-blocking is widespread.

Google opens Bard A.I. for testing by users in U.S. and UK

After months of public chatter about emerging chatbots powered by artificial intelligence, Google is opening its Bard AI platform to a limited number of users.

The company is officially allowing people in the U.S. and U.K. to sign up for its generative AI product. Google said in a blog post Tuesday that it will be expanding availability over time to more countries and languages. The post, noscriptd “Try Bard and share your feedback,” was authored by Sissie Hsiao, product vice president, and Eli Collins, research vice president.

Can Bard help with coding?
Bard can’t help you with coding just yet. Bard is still learning to code, and responses about code aren’t officially supported for now.

Amazon Starts Due Diligence To Buy MX Player For About INR 900 Cr

Ecommerce giant Amazon reportedly has appointed one of the Big Four accounting firms to perform the due diligence procedure to buy MX Player. The process might take 30-40 days to get completed.

After the due diligence report, if everything goes well, Amazon would acquire MX Player for about INR 600-INR 900 Cr in the next two months.

Windows Snipping tool is vulnerable to Acropalypse as well

According to a user on Twitter, screenshots taken by Windows 11's Snipping tool or Windows 10's Snip and Sketch tool can be recovered by Acropalypse too.

Apps which are affected:
• Windows 11 - Snipping Tool
• Windows 10 - Snip and Sketch Tool

Apps which are not affected:
• Windows 10 - The original "Snipping tool"

Which images are affected?
- Take a screenshot via Snipping tool
- Press the save icon.
- Crop the screenshot.
- Press the save icon and save to the same file (the default!)
Images that are edited in this way can be recovered.

GNOME 44 “Kuala Lumpur” Officially Released, This Is What’s New

Major changes:
• GNOME's Web Browser (Epiphany) has been ported to GTK4.
• There is now a file chooser grid view for apps that use the standard GTK file chooser.
• You can now add WireGuard VPN directly from the Network panel.

Changes in Quick Settings:
• A submenu to the Bluetooth button has been added to more easily and quickly connect or disconnect peripherals, adding denoscriptions to buttons to easily see their status.
• A new feature called Background Apps has been added, in which apps having no visible windows will be listed.

New features in Settings app:
• Support for sharing Wi-Fi connections via QR codes on the Wi-Fi panel.
• A new location chooser in the Date & Time panel.
• Kernel and firmware version fields in the About panel.

Microsoft's collaborative work app, Loop, is finally available in public preview

This app lets people work on projects with live-updating components that can drop into Microsoft 365 apps like Word and Outlook. You can place a table in a Word document that updates as users change it, for instance.

Loop lets you assign tasks (synced with Planner and To Do), comment, react, share project pages and track progress. On your phone, you can contribute photos if something inspires you while you're away from your computer.

Ethernet co-inventor Bob Metcalfe wins the Turing Award, the 'Nobel Prize of computing'

Together at Xerox's renowned Palo Alto Research Institute (better known as Xerox PARC), Bob Metcalfe and the late David Boggs developed Ethernet and set the stage for a networking revolution. Yesterday, Metcalfe received the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) A.M. Turing Award, which is often pegged the "Nobel Prize of computing."

Thanks to funding from Google, that prize is now worth $1 million, and it's yet another highlight for Metcalfe's storied career.

Pornhub is under new ownership

A Canadian private equity firm has acquired MindGeek, the company behind Pornhub, YouPorn, and other major adult media sites. Financial Times reported that newly formed Ethical Capital Partners acquired MindGeek for an undisclosed amount and that it will continue to operate under an unidentified group of current executives alongside an ECP management team that includes “lawyers and former cannabis investors.” ECP also confirmed the news on its site.
