Amazon is making its own Linux-Based OS to replace Android

Amazon’s new OS is being developed under the codename 'Vega'.

Amazon is building its own iOS/Android competitor and has tasked “hundreds of people” within the Amazon Device OS group with building it. Vega is expected to begin shipping on Fire TVs early next year. An SDK is now being readied for release so developers have time to port their apps to Vega ahead of its debut.

Amazon’s new operating system is also based on a flavor of Linux, and is using a more web-forward application model. App developers are being told to use React Native as an application framework, which allows them to build native apps with Javanoscript-powered interfaces

Vega is primed for lower-power devices that struggle with the bloat Android contains.

Spotify is laying off 1.5k employees

Spotify is the latest tech company that will lay off employees as a cost-cutting measure. According to a public memo from Daniel Ek, co-founder and CEO of the Swedish audio streaming platform, approximately 17% of the workforce will be reduced.

A quick calculation based on the latest quarterly report reveals this is about 1,500 of the total 9,241 employees worldwide.

YouTube is working on making life even more of a living hell for ad blockers

Recently, YouTube has been trying to fight ad blockers even more than before by apparently making heavy changes on their ad displaying techniques.

“To counteract its changes to ad delivery and ad blocker detection, block lists have to be updated at minimum on a daily basis, and sometimes even more often,” Modras said.

“While all players in the space are innovating, some ad blockers are simply unable to keep up with these changes.”

Seems like they really do hate ad blockers huh?

YouTube is also loading slower for users with ad blockers on all browsers

YouTube has started cracking down on ad blockers, and now, that includes slowing down the loading time for anyone who has an ad blocker installed on any browser.
While this was first noticed with Mozilla Firefox, YouTube says that its ad blocker detection does not target specific browsers and that this behavior may be seen on any browser with an ad blocker installed.

Rockstar Games released the GTA VI trailer because it was leaked

GTA VI trailer was scheduled to premiere on December 5th at 9AM ET but a leak prompted Rockstar Games to release the trailer 15 hours early

GTA 6 is coming to PS5 & Xbox Series X / S and is set to release in 2025
There is NO date specified for PC release but hopefully, it will be in 2026
