Disney Seeking Dismissal of Raglan Road Death Lawsuit Because Victim Was Disney+ Subscriber
Disney is seeking the dismissal of a wrongful death lawsuit involving a woman who died from anaphylaxis after a meal at Disney Springs. The company cites an arbitration waiver in Disney+ terms and conditions, which "requires users to arbitrate all disputes with the company."
Disney claims the woman agreed to this waiver when she signed up for a one-month free trial of Disney+ on her PlayStation console in 2019. Attorneys for the woman’s family called Disney’s argument “preposterous,” saying it’s absurd to think all Disney+ subscribers waived claims due to 'buried' language in terms and conditions.

TRAI Cracks Down on Spam Calls, CBI Investigates Call Center Scams
India's Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) has directed service providers to halt promotional calls from unregistered callers and blacklist them for up to two years. This move aims to combat the surge in spam and phishing calls that have led to significant financial losses. Telecom companies must now submit bi-monthly reports on actions taken against scam callers.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered FIRs against ten Indian call centers following complaints from Amazon and Microsoft. These centers allegedly scammed foreign customers by offering fake technical support and unauthorized account charges for services like Amazon Fire Stick activation.

You'll have to start paying for unlicensed OneDrive accounts next year
Starting January 27, 2025, Microsoft will automatically archive unlicensed OneDrive for work or school accounts after 90 days, charging $0.05 per GB monthly storage fee. Archived data will be inaccessible until the organization pays a $0.60 per GB fee to reactivate it. If fees aren't paid, the account will be deleted within 93 days.
Microsoft is implementing this change to improve security and compliance by encouraging better account management. Organizations will need to either re-license, delete, or pay to archive unlicensed accounts, except for education, GCC, and DoD customers who are exempt from this policy.

Proton VPN Opens Browser Extensions to Free Users
Proton has announced that free users can now access its VPN browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox, previously limited to paying customers. The browser extension provides VPN protection solely for the browser, without needing the Proton VPN app, and may still work in regions where VPN apps are blocked.
The free version doesn't allow server selection and lacks advanced features, but it doesn't limit bandwidth or show ads. This update enhances Proton VPN's free offerings, giving users more flexibility in protecting their online privacy.

X's new AI image generator will make anything
xAI’s Grok chatbot now lets X Premium subscribers create images from text prompts, leading to content like Barack Obama doing cocaine, Donald Trump with a pregnant woman resembling Kamala, etc. However, Grok refused to generate a single request: an image of a naked woman.
Grok will tell you it has guardrails if you ask, which probably aren't real rules, as responses vary when asked multiple times, with different policies each time.
Unlike OpenAI, which restricts prompts for real people and harmful content, Grok’s approach aligns with Musk’s disregard for standard AI safety norms amid ongoing investigation from the European Commission.

US Considers a Rare Antitrust Move: Breaking Up Google
The Justice Department is considering breaking up Alphabet's Google following a landmark court ruling that found the company monopolized the online search market. Less severe options include forcing Google to share more data with the competitors and preventing unfair advantages in AI products.
Alphabet shares were down 3.8% at 10:13 a.m. in New York, the most since Aug. 5, when a federal judge ruled the company has an illegal monopoly in the search market. The US government is likely to seek a ban on exclusive contracts in its case against Google, with the most likely divestment units being the Android operating system and Google's Chrome browser. Officials are also considering forcing the sale of AdWords, the platform used for text advertising.
