Microsoft is making Office apps load at startup

Microsoft is introducing "Startup Boost" for Office apps, beginning with Word in mid-May 2025. It will enhance load times by preloading the apps at Windows startup. It is only available for PCs having at least 8GB of RAM and 5GB of free disk space to maintain performance.

The scheduled task will wait for 10 minutes before execution to prevent slowing down Windows on login. After the task executes, the app remains in paused state. It can be disabled via app settings or Task Scheduler. The feature will later extend to other Office apps.

Microsoft makes all new accounts passwordless by default

Microsoft has announced that all new personal accounts will be "passwordless by default." This replaces traditional passwords with alternatives like passkeys, biometrics, one-time codes, Microsoft Authenticator, etc. to secure accounts against phishing, brute-force attacks, etc.

Once the users are signed in, they will be prompted to enroll passkey. Existing users can delete their password by visiting the account settings.
This simplified experience gets you signed in faster and in our experiments has reduced password use by over 20%

Firefox could be doomed without a Google search deal

Mozilla’s CFO has said that Firefox’s future will be at risk if the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) restricts Google’s search monopoly. Google’s payments for the default search engine on Firefox make up about 85% of Mozilla’s revenue.

Losing this revenue means Mozilla would be forced to make drastic cuts, which could "put Firefox out of business," along with other nonprofit efforts like open-source web tools.
Without the revenue, Mozilla and other small, independent browsers may be forced to scale back operations and cut support for critical projects like Gecko, the only remaining browser engine competing with Google’s Chromium and Apple’s WebKit.

Temu Halts Direct China Shipments Amid U.S. Tariff Hike

Temu has stopped shipping products from China to the U.S. directly in response to President Trump's executive order ending the de minimis rule which allowed items ≤ $800 to enter U.S. without import fees and increasing tariffs.

The company has now transitioned to a "local fulfillment model", recruiting U.S. sellers to join the platform and source products from U.S. warehouses instead. The consumer pricing remains unchanged during this shift, and the products from China are being listed as "out of stock."

BREAKING: Journalists Mishaal Rahman and Kamila exploited a security flaw to leak internal Google Pixel and Android details

Two well-known Android Authority journalists, Kamila Wojciechowska and Mishaal Rahman, are being accused of exploiting a vulnerability to get unauthorized access to dogfood builds (internal Google builds). This access reportedly allowed them to leak unreleased information about upcoming Pixel hardware and Android software features.

Instead of reporting the security flaw to Google, the two allegedly used it to publish "exclusive" stories and leaks based on confidential and unofficial builds. They gave the impression that Google supported their reporting, while hiding the fact that it was based on a serious vulnerability.

This raises serious concerns about how tech outlets get their information, as they are now crossing ethical lines to leak it.

Direct Proof that Mishaal and Kamila Leveraged Security Loophole for Android Leaks

In the chat conversation, Mishaal admitted that he was running dogfood builds on his Pixel 8 Pro. To exploit the vulnerability, he used a tool which even allowed him to set his serial number & thus get access to internal builds.

Later, Mishaal admits he knows "someone" who also found this loophole and it would be a "shame" if Google closes it likely because this is the only way he "exclusively" leaks about upcoming Google Pixel or Android features.

He was worried that Google might investigate & find out he had early access to Pixel 10 firmware alongside Kamila. Kamila and their "friend" even sent dogfood build screenshots in Pebble's discord server likely to "flex" as Pebble is owned by Google.

Mishaal also enlightened another person how to leak information safely. He acknowledged that he knows someone with access to the partner repos despite actually running dogfood. At the end when someone would ask about the source, Mishaal mentions that HE WILL DENY using a "Loophole" for getting information by saying that their sources are someone form google, in short: Plausible deniability.

Controlling the Leak: Journalism or Just Business?
Source

Two months ago, a Pixel 9 Pro running an internal dogfood build was leaked on TikTok, showing early Android 16 features like the new UI, ambient AOD walls etc. Since it was so early, many (inc. me) doubted it but journalist Mishaal Rahman didn’t comment when people asked him. He knew it is 100% real but chose not to confirm or deny because then "everyone would spread the leak" which would affect his exclusive coverage. Basically it was "all part of the strategy".

Mishaal later said he’d post about most of those features shown in the leak once Beta 3 dropped, but carefully, since they require the "Flag Flipper" app that is present in dogfood builds only.
You don't want to reveal how you enabled these features, ie. Flag Flipper on a dogfood build

In his recent article about Android 16 Big UI Overhaul, he claimed that the new UI features were “hidden in Beta 4”, which in reality they aren’t because these features are only present in internal builds. Many people run Beta builds on their Google Pixel, but you will never see anyone having those new "hidden" UI features except Mishaal Rahman.

Mishaal was also worried about someone revealing a "bunch of internal Google apps," saying Google might investigate and once they figure out "how," they'll close the "loophole," which will make it "much harder to get these builds", thus be lowkey.

If you're wondering why Mishaal is silent on these allegations — it's because he is deleting any messages about these posts in his chats. The chat admins are even banning users for sharing these posts.
