INVOCATION OF PEACE AND BLESSINGS UPON THE PROPHET ﷺ IN ABUNDANCE ON FRIDAY

Ibnul-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said:

"It is preferred to pray to ALLĀH to send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ during the day and night of Jumuah, as the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Invoke many prayers upon me during the day and night of Friday.'

"The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ is the leader of mankind, and Jumu'ah is the best of the days of the week. Prayers upon him during that day are a privilege ˹he deserves˺, which belongs to no one other than him.

"This act also has another wisdom, and that is that all of the good that has passed onto this Ummah, in this life and the Hereafter, has passed through him. ALLĀH has gathered the good of this life and the next life for this Ummah, and the greatest honor and success will be granted to them on Friday. On that day, they will be granted their houses and palaces in Paradise and that is the day they will be given more when they enter Paradise. It is a day of celebration for them in this life. It is also a day in which ALLĀH fulfills their needs and answers their prayers and requests in this world. They are aware of all of that and are able to attain it because of the Prophet ﷺ and it is through him ˹that they received these teachings˺; therefore, in gratitude and appreciation for the great blessings we received through him, we should send many prayers upon him during the day and night of Jumu'ah."

FROM THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF FATHERS REGARDING THEIR CHILDREN

The following is an excerpt from a sermon delivered by Shaikh Sālih bin Fawzān al-Fawzān (may ALLĀH preserve him upon goodness), he said:

Fear ALLĀH, servants of ALLĀH, let the father be a virtuous example for his son before everything else, him being an example in of himself, how then would it be if the father was corrupt and engages in corruption? By neglecting the prayer, sleeping over the prayer (times), and does not come home except for food and drink, otherwise he is at the rest-houses and the mansions of celebration and on journeys and other than that. He does not ask concerning his offspring, this is a father? This is a bestial father, not a father who bears the responsibility before ALLĀH, the Glorified, and Most High.

Be a virtuous example for your offspring before everything else, likewise the supplication for the offspring, Ibrāhīm (alayhis-salām) said:

وَاجْنُبْنِي وَبَنِيَّ أَن نَّعْبُدَ الْأَصْنَامَ
And keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.
(14:35)

He associated his sons along with himself in the request.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
My Lord, make me one who establishes the prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
(14:40)

Supplicate for your offspring along with carrying out the factors towards their educational cultivation, supplicate to ALLĀH that HE aids you and that HE rectifies them.

Vacate your home from the means to corruption, the means of corrupt forms of communication from songs and pipes and depraved images, otherwise your home will be a nest for corruption.

Make your home pure, a place of worship and the remembrance of ALLĀH, nothing is heard within it except dhikr and the recitation of the Qur'ān and good speech, speech which is harmless, upright.

Teach your son – the first thing is get your son to memorise the Qur'ān, and choose for him a virtuous school by way of its principal and its teachers and its students. Choose for him a virtuous school and follow him up in his studies and ask concerning him and help him in his studies and encourage him upon it.

ALLĀH'S INSTRUCTION TO PARENTS

ALLĀH says,

يُوصِيكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِىٓ أَوۡلَٰدِكُمۡۖ
ALLĀH instructs you concerning your children...

That is, your children - O parents - are entrusted to you and ALLĀH has instructed you to look after them, take care of their affairs both spiritual and worldly, teach them, discipline them, restrain them from committing evil, and enjoin them to obey ALLĀH and to fear HIM at all times, as HE says elsewhere:

یَـٰۤأَیُّهَا ٱلَّذِینَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قُوۤا۟ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَهۡلِیكُمۡ نَارࣰا وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلۡحِجَارَةُ
0 you who believe, guard yourselves and your families against a fire whose fuel is men and stones...
{At-Taḥrīm : 6}

So children are entrusted to the care of their parents, who either fulfil the obligations of this trust, in which case they will have a great reward, or they neglect it, in which case they deserve warning and punishment. This indicates that ALLĀH is more merciful to HIS slaves than parents, as HE instructed parents - even though they are compassionate towards their children - to take care of them.

ALLĀH IS THE TRUE KING

Muslim narrates, on the authority of Ibn 'Umar (may ALLĀH be pleased with them) in a marfu form: "ALLĀH will fold up the heavens on the Day of Resurrection and then HE will take them in HIS Right Hand and say: "I am the King, where are the tyrants? Where are the arrogant ones?" Then HE will fold up the seven earth and take them in HIS left Hand and say: "I am the King, where are the tyrants? where are the arrogant ones?"

📚 Muslim #2788

Ibn 'Umar (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) informs us that he heard from the Prophet (ﷺ) that on the Day of Judgement, ALLĀH, Most Glorified, Most High, will fold up the seven heavens and take them in HIS right Hand and HE will fold up the seven earth and take them in HIS left Hand and as HE folds each of them, HE will call forth the tyrants and the arrogant people, making them realise their insignificance by HIS Words: "I am the King." - i.e. HE is the true Owner of all things; HE is Perfect in every respect and there is no weakness or defect in HIM and that all those who claim kingship or sovereignty are in fact weak and feeble, powerless in HIS Grasp. HE will not be asked about what HE does, but they will be asked.

BENEFITS DERIVED FROM THIS HADITH:

1⃣. Confirmation of ALLĀH's possessing two Hands, right and left.

2⃣. Confirmation of ALLĀH's Divine Attribute of Speech in a manner befitting HIS Majesty.

3⃣. Confirmation of ALLĀH's Name: Al-Malik (the King), from which is inferred HIS Ownership of all things.

4⃣. Evidence that there are seven earths.

5⃣. The forbiddance of tyranny and arrogance.

6⃣. Evidence of Allah's Perfection and infallibility.

YOU WILL ENDURE FIVE TYPES OF TRIALS

Ibn Umar, may ALLĀH be pleased with them, reported: The Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) said,

“O emigrants, there are five things with which you will be tested, and I seek refuge in ALLĀH that you will live to see them.

• Promiscuity never becomes widespread among people but that they will be afflicted by plagues and diseases that were unknown to their forefathers.

• They do not cheat in weights and measures but that they will be stricken with famine, calamity, and the oppression of rulers.

• They do not withhold charity from their wealth but that rain will be withheld from the sky, and were it not for the animals, there would be no rain at all.

• They do not break their covenant with Allāh and His Messenger but that Allāh will enable their enemies to overpower them and take what is in their hands.

• Their leaders must rule according to the Book of ALLĀH and seek every good from what ALLĀH has revealed, lest ALLĀH place violence among them.”

How To Perfect Your Day
THE LAST SERMON OF UMAR IBN ABD AL-'AZĪZ

It is reported that the last sermon Umar ibn Abd Al-'Aziz (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) delivered was as follows:

He praised ALLĀH and said, "You were not created in vain, nor will you be left without purpose. Verily, you have an appointed time in which ALLĀH, the Most High, will come down to judge you. Wretched and ruined will he be who leaves the mercy of ALLĀH and is denied a Garden whose width is that of the heavens and Earth.

Know you not that no one will be safe tomorrow save one who is wary of today and fears it; and sells the transitory for what will remain, and the little for the plenty, and fear in exchange for security ˹in the hereafter˺?

See you not that you are in the loins of the dead, to be taken by those who remain after you, until all matters return to the Best of Inheritors? Every day, ˹in the funerals˺ you accompany those returning to ALLĀH the Mighty and Sublime, having spent their time, until you hide them in a crevice in the ground, in the belly of a bare and unfurnished hole, having parted from their loved ones, stroking the dirt and facing their accounts. Now, they are dependent on their deeds, free of what they left behind, in need of ˹the deeds˺ they put before them. So fear ALLĀH before the time HE appointed is up and death descends upon you. This is what I have to say."

He then lifted the edge of his garment over his face and wept profusely, and made everyone around him weep.

VIRTUES OF THE MONTH OF SHA’BĀN

Sha'bān is the eighth Islamic month that comes between Rajab and Ramadān. Sha’bān is an introduction to the month of Ramadān and just like Ramadān – fasting and recitation of the Qur'ān has been prescribed within it to meet Ramadān by having ourselves prepared in obedience to the Most Merciful and it is also the month in which people's deeds are taken up to ALLĀH.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to fast frequently during this month. The number of fasts he used to observe in this month was more than any other month except for the month of Ramadān.

In a narration by the mother of the believers, A'ishah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her), she said; "I never saw the Prophet (ﷺ) fasting in a month so profusely as he did in the month of Sha’bān. He used to fast in that month leaving only a few days, rather, he used to fast almost the whole of the month." {Bukhari #1833, Muslim #1956}

In another narration, Usama ibn Zaid (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) reports that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ) "O Messenger of ALLĀH, I have seen you fasting in the month of Sha’bān so frequently that I have never seen you fasting in any other month." The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: "That (Sha’bān) is a month between Rajab and Ramadān which is neglected by many people. And It is the month in which people’s deeds are taken up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I would like my deeds to be taken up whilst I am fasting." {An-Nasā’i‌  #2357}

So it is clear from the above narrations that this is indeed a very special month and it is highly recommended to fast as much as possible.

It is also said that the month of Rajab is the month for planting seeds, the month of Sha’bān is the month in which you water the seeds, and the month of Ramadān is the month of harvest; wherein the seeds bear fruit. How can we expect the seeds to bear fruit in Ramadān if we do not plant any seeds in the previous months?

However, it should be noted that it is not obligatory to fast during this month. One should only fast during this month if one can do so without bringing any harm to oneself. If one fears that fasting during this month will cause him to lose his strength or freshness of mind for the month of Ramadān then one should refrain from doing so since the obligatory fasts of Ramadān are more important. But still, we should strive to fulfil this Prophetic Sunnah to the best of our abilities, which will, in shā ALLĀH, bring us closer to ALLĀH and prepare us both physically and mentally for the blessed month of Ramadān.

SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY

Some narrations reported from the Salaf in explanation of what it means to protect oneself and one's family as mentioned in Al-Tahrīm, verse 6:

O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are ˹appointed˺ angels, stern and severe, and who disobey not the commands they receive from ALLĀH, but do that which they are commanded.
(66:6)

• Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) said: "Discipline them, teach them."

· Ibn Abbās (may ALLĀH be pleased with them) said: "Stay obedient to ALLĀH, stay away from disobeying ALLĀH and command your families to remember ALLĀH, and HE will save you from the Fire."

· Mujāhid (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "Fear ALLĀH and obey him (practice taqwā) and tell your families to practice taqwā."

· Qatādah (may ALLĀH have mercy on him) said: "A person protects his family by telling them to obey ALLĀH and forbidding them from disobeying HIM. He upholds ALLĀH’s commandments and helps his family to uphold them. So if you see some disobedience of ALLĀH you stop them from doing it, and you reprimand them."

The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and establish prayer and give zakāh and obey ALLĀH and HIS Messenger. Those - ALLĀH will have mercy upon them. Indeed, ALLĀH is Exalted in Might and Wise.

ALLĀH has promised the believers - men and women, - Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of ALLĀH. That is the supreme success.

ENCOURAGEMENT TO REPEL EVIL WITH GOODNESS.

ALLAH says,

وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّيَةُ
Good deeds and evil deeds are not equal.

That is, doing good deeds and acts of obedience for the sake of ALLĀH is not the same as doing evil deeds and acts of disobedience that incur HIS wrath and do not please HIM. Kindness towards people is not the same as mistreatment of them, whether in essence, denoscription or requital. "Is the reward of goodness anything but goodness" {ar-Rahman: 60}

Then ALLĀH enjoins a specific type of kindness, which may have a great impact. It is being kind to one who mistreats you, as HE says:

ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ
Repel ˹evil˺ with that which is better.

That is, if anyone mistreats you in word or deed, especially one who has great rights over you, such as relatives, friends and the like, then respond with kindness towards him. If he cuts you off, then uphold ties with him. If he wrongs you, then forgive him. If he speaks ill of you, in your absence or in your presence, then do not respond in kind; rather forgive him and speak gently to him. If he forsakes you and does not speak to you, then speak nicely to him and be the first to greet him with salam. If you respond to mistreatment with kindness, you will achieve much good.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

#sadi #Fussilat (41:34)

Abu Huraira (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported: A man said, “O Messenger of ALLĀH, I have relatives with whom I try to relate but they cut me off. I treat them well, but they treat me badly. I am forbearing with them, but they are harsh with me.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If it is as you say, then it is as if you threw hot ashes at them. ALLĀH will be with you as a supporter as long as you remain like so.”

Sha‘bān: The Month of the Qur’an Reciters —

A group of the Salaf used to call the month of Sha‘bān the month of the reciters, as mentioned by Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit. Salamah ibn Kuhayl said: It used to be said about the month of Sha‘bān: the month of the reciters.
And when Sha‘bān began, ‘Amr ibn Qays al-Mullā’ī would devote himself to the Qur’an.

Ibn Rajab mentioned this in his book Laṭā’if al-Ma‘ārif, and he explained a wisdom behind it: that increasing one’s engagement with the Qur’an in the month of Sha‘bān is beneficial for training the soul and accustoming it to frequent recitation. Then, when Ramaḍān arrives, the soul is already prepared and trained in reciting the Qur’an, enabling it to read as much as possible in the master of months, the month of Ramaḍān. This is a tremendous wisdom.

So let us strive against ourselves to increase our recitation of the Qur’an in the month of Sha‘bān, and to be a nation of knowledge and action. Then, when that blessed and great month—Ramaḍān—arrives, our souls will already be accustomed to abundant recitation of the Qur’an.

VIRTUES OF JUMU’AH

Imam Ahmad recorded that 'Aws bin 'Aws Ath-Thaqafi said that he heard ALLAH's Messenger (ﷺ) say,

"Whoever performs Ghusl (well) on the day of Jumu'ah, leaves early, walking not riding, and sits close to the Imam and listens without talking, will earn the reward of fasting and performing standing (in prayer) for an entire year for every step he takes."

This Hadith has various chains of narration, the compilers of the Four Sunan collected it, and At-Tirmidhi graded it Hasan.

The Two Sahihs also recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of ALLĀH (ﷺ) said,

"Any person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath for sexual impurity and

then goes for the prayer in the first hour, it is as if he had sacrificed a camel.

Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he had sacrificed a cow.

Whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a horned ram.

If one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a hen.

Whoever goes in the fifth hour, then it is as if he had offered an egg.

When the Imam appears, the angels present themselves to listen to ALLAH's remembrance.

Six Points Regarding the Month of Sha’bān You Must Know!

🎙️Shaykh Ibn Uthaymīn (may ALLĀH have mercy on him)
THE VIRTUE OF PARDONING OTHERS

ALLĀH stated:

وَأَن تَعْفُواْ أَقْرَبُ لِلتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَنسَوُاْ ٱلۡفَضۡلَ بَيۡنَكُمۡۚ
And to forego it is nearer to piety. And do not forget graciousness between you.

ALLĀH states that the one who forgoes it is closer to piety, because it is an act of kindness that leads to people feeling at ease, and because the individual should not neglect to do acts of kindness or forget graciousness which is the pinnacle of interaction, because interactions between people occur on two levels: either justice and fairness, which is obligatory and is the basis on which people give and take what is due, or graciousness and kindness, which means giving what is not due and being easygoing with regard to one’s own rights, suppressing any feelings of annoyance. No one should forget this level, even if that is only on some occasions, especially with regard to those with whom one has to interact or mix with...⬇️

ABŪ BAKR ADVICE TO 'UMAR ON HIS DEATHBED

When Abū Bakr Al-Ṣiddīq (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) was on his deathbed he called 'Umar (may ALLĀH be pleased with him) and said:

"Fear ALLĀH O Umar, and know that ALLĀH has deeds to be done for HIM in the day which HE will not accept if done at night, and HE has deeds to be done for HIM at night which HE will not accept if done during the day.

HE will not accept extra (nāfilah) deeds unless you fulfill the obligatory deeds.

The scales of those whose scales will be weighty on the Day of Resurrection will only be weighty because they followed the truth in this life and it was weighty to them. And scales in which the truth will be placed tomorrow truly deserve to be heavy.

And the scales of those whose scales will be light on the Day of Resurrection will only be light because they followed falsehood in this life and it was a light matter to them. And scales in which falsehood will be placed tomorrow truly deserve to be light.

ALLĀH the Exalted has mentioned the people of Paradise and mentioned them in the context of their best deeds, and overlooked their evil deeds, so when I remember them I say to myself: I fear that I will not be included with them.

And ALLĀH the Exalted has mentioned the people of Hell and mentioned them in the context of their worst deeds and rejected their best deeds, so when I remember them I say: I hope I won't be amongst them.

ALLĀH's worshippers should always be in a state of hope and fear, they shouldn't wish flimsy wishes about ALLĀH and neither should they despair of ALLĀH's mercy.

If you keep to this advice of mine, no one who is not with you now should be more beloved to you than death – and it is sure to come to you. But if you disregard this advice, no one who is not with you now should be more hated to you than death – and you cannot escape it."

THE TRANSIENT ATTAINMENT AND THE EVERLASTING ATTAINMENT

ALLĀH says,

مَا عِندَكُمْ
Whatever you have,
even if you have a great deal,

يَنفَدُۖ
will ˹inevitably˺ come to an end (either it leaves you or you leave it)

وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ بَاقٍۗ
but that which is with ALLĀH is everlasting.

As HE is ˹Everlasting˺, so it will never cease to be or perish. Therefore he is not wise who gives precedence to that which is transient and insignificant over that which will abide and is precious. This is like the verses in which ALLĀH, Glorified and Exalted, says:

بَلۡ تُؤۡثِرُونَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأٓخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ
But you ˹O humankind˺ prefer the life of this world even though the hereafter is better and more lasting
. (87:16-17) - and:

وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيۡرٌ لِّلۡأَبۡرَارِ
