Application of the Beating Method to Define the Electroencephalogram α−Rhythm Frequency Content
Among plenty of the brain oscillation electrical patterns, the spindle oscillations in the alpha rhythm band has main functional significance, in particular in emotional, memory, motivation and attention processes. At the same time, signal processing techniques well developed in radio engineering are not used in electroencephalogram (EEG) processing. For the first time the beating method was applied to electroencephalograms. It is shown that the beating method allows the determination of α−rhythm frequencies, which are not always resoluted using Furrier transform. EEG is non-stationary process that’s why instantaneous frequency is a very important characteristics of EEG. The calculation of instantaneous frequency values was carried out based on the Hilbert transform and intersection detector method. A comparative analysis of electroencephalograms frequency content obtained by Furrier transform, Hilbert transform and Zero-level intersection detector method was carried out.

Strategies for restoring somatic sensations in upper-limb amputees through non invasive methods
"The study will focus on two promising non-invasive techniques: Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), which interfaces with the PNS, and transcranial Focused Ultrasound Stimulation (tFUS), which interfaces with the CNS. Research activities to pursue these objectives were focused on: (i) the development and validation of traditional encoding strategies to recreate force and slippage sensations in transradial amputees; (ii) the development and validation of novel bio-inspred strategies for encoding mechanoception, nociception and thermoception information in able-bodied subjects through TENS; (iii) the development of a neurocomputational model for simulating the effects of tFUS on cortical sensory structures in order to guide the application of safe and effective stimulations."

Participants in both training protocols successfully modulated EEG signal power and duration; however, these effects were not specific to the targeted frequency band.

For the first 10 s approximately, he is adamant that he cannot see any color. He says, “I know there’s an object, but I can’t tell the colour’. The brochure is slowly moved until it is at arm’s length. then says: “wait, wait, wait, wait… yes, the colour is coming, but… red hasn’t quite emerged yet, but…”. He continues to look at the object for another 10 to 15 s; then, suddenly, he exclaims “yes there it is, I see the red colour now… it is red.”

On the bright side of blindsight. Considerations from new observations of awareness in a blindsight patient
Abstract. Blindsight refers to the ability to make accurate visual discriminations without conscious awareness of the stimuli. In this study, we present ne
