Christmas Eve, 1914. After months of intense fighting that left hundreds of thousands dead, the guns fall silent. English and German troops leave their trenches in an impromptu show of good will that would go down in history.

As the German soldiers began to sing carols, their British counterparts joined in from their trenches. Gradually, the men left their posts for No-man's-land, waving their arms to signify their peaceful intent.
