The Build On L2 community is supporting the VLS project with a $150,000 grant to develop a new Rust library for Lightning signers, bringing more features to the open-source community and everybody building on Core Lightning.

The new Lightning signer will be available on multiple platforms and is non-custodial. Users will be able to define rules so that the signer only signs certain types of transactions like channel openings or routing forwards making running a Lightning node much safer.

In more good news, the VLS signer is now fully integrated with Blockstream's Greenlight, allowing devs building with the gl-client or other layers like the Breez SDK to easily access the signer without needing modifications.

Growing evidence suggests that there will not be a 'one size fits all' solution to Bitcoin scaling but rather many complementary protocols, each addressing different challenges and markets, that ultimately help usher in hyperbitcoinization.

In the latest Layer-2 Roundup, we delve into second-layer protocols, highlight the importance of interoperability, and showcase the projects using these solutions together to tackle the challenges of adoption and the growing pains that come with it—as we saw in May's high-fee environment.

Privacy has always been an important part of the Bitcoin ethos: money requires fungibility, and fungibility requires privacy. At Blockstream, we actively develop privacy-enhancing methods like best wallet practices in Blockstream Green and Confidential Transactions (CT) in Liquid for Bitcoin users.
