He was an Old Testament prophet. His name means "comforter." He was a very nationalistic Hebrew who lived amongst the Elkoshites in peace. His short prophecy is directed against Nineveh, whose destruction he warned of and saw. He preached that God rules the course of time and judges peoples in justice. His writings tell us that one cannot think of building kingdoms on misdeeds, because in the end nothing is left unpunished.

He was an English Jesuit priest and martyr. He was born to an Anglican family. He was called “the beautiful youth” because of his handsomeness and his smooth skin which remained smooth until he died. He later converted to Catholicism and became a priest. He was jailed and tortured for being Catholic. He was stretched on a rack and starved. Needles were also inserted under his nails. Finally, he was hanged, drawn, and quartered.

The image of Our Lady of Liesse is also venerated under the noscript of Causa Nostrae Laetitiae or the Cause of Our Joy. It was an ancient statue of the Madonna and Child brought from Egypt to France during the Crusades by three Knights of Malta who had been captured by Muslims. It was enshrined at Liesse, France. The original statue was destroyed during the French Revolution. A duplicate was installed and crowned in 1857.

According to stories, when St. Francis Xavier sailed to Malacca to preach the Gospel, he encountered a storm. With much faith, he threw his cross into the sea. The waters pacified and he was able to safely arrive at the shore. Then he saw a crab crawling towards him holding the missing cross in on of its claws. Interestingly, there is a specie of crab in that area, the Charybdis feriata, which has a marking resembling the cross on its carapace.
