“A black market Chinese biolab in Reedley, California, located about 25 miles southeast of Fresno, received more than $1.3 million in unexplained payments from banks in China while in operation, according to U.S. lawmakers.

The illegal biolab had thousands of vials and other containers, some labeled with potentially deadly infectious agents on site, including HIV and Ebola, according to officials.”

“Nearly 450 patients at a hospital in Massachusetts might have been exposed to hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV due to poor administration of IV medications, said the hospital in a statement.

Salem Hospital told news outlets this week that patients undergoing an endoscopy—including colonoscopies, laparoscopies, and bronchoscopies—at the hospital may have been exposed to the pathogens over the past several years. The patients, it added, were exposed when IV medications were given ‘in a manner not consistent with our best practice.’”

Longer COVID School Closures Linked to Youth Suicidality, Research Finds, Doctors Echo

“The report, published on JAMA Network Open on Nov. 10, was led by researchers from the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School.

‘This cohort study found an association between longer school closures in the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic and increases in youth suicidality,’ the authors wrote, adding that further investigation is needed so that ‘policy regarding school closures may better align with the mental health needs of youth.’

Texas, which had more in-person education from 2020 to 2022, had lower rates of emergency department youth suicidality visits than Massachusetts, a state that had more prolonged school closures, the authors found.”
