US stocks SINK as Fed Reserve warns threat of “persistently higher inflation” has grown - thanks to Omicron

Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell warned the Senate Banking Committee that inflation problems exacerbated by the Omicron variant could plague the US economy well into next year.

His comments notably deviated from his usual assessment that high inflation - already at a 31-year high - is transitory, sending the Dow Jones plunging 1.4%.

European markets and Tokyo’s Nikkei also dropped 1.5-1.6% after Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel saying existing vaccines would be less effective against Omicron than against Delta variants.

ANALYSIS: The genomic sequence of the “Omicron” variant has the most # mutations out of all the SARS-COV-2 virus variants, yet the closest ancestor of it was Jan 2020 which is one of the original Wuhan strains. 🤔

All other variants, such as Delta, have gone though gradual mutations over time since the pandemic began.

“Two doctors tested positive for the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Sheba Medical Center announced Tuesday, doubling the number of known cases of the new virus strain in Israel.

Both of the doctors work at the hospital outside of Tel Aviv and one of them had recently returned from a conference in London. That doctor then came in close contact with their colleague, likely infecting them, Sheba said, noting that both had received three doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine and were only experiencing mild symptoms.”

US Defense Secretary demands National Guard troops get vaxxed or LOSE pay

DoD chief Lloyd Austin ordered all members of the National Guard to receive to the Covid vaccine or face loss of pay plus be marked absent from training. (NBC)

Austin made the Coronavirus vaccine mandatory for all service members on August 24 however the Oklahoma governor asked the Defense Sec. to rescind the mandate for his state’s branch of the NG.

Austin on Monday denied the request and ratcheted up the rhetoric with a memo issued Tuesday that lays out how the Pentagon will enforce the mandate across the US, even while members of the Guard are on state duty.
