🌱 Soft Skills for Techies 🌱
In today’s tech world, coding alone isn’t enough. To grow as a developer, engineer, or innovator, soft skills matter just as much as technical skills.
✨ Essential Lessons to Grow
- Communication: Explain your ideas clearly to teammates, clients, and non-tech people.
- Collaboration: Great projects are built in teams, not alone.
- Adaptability: Tech changes fast being flexible keeps you valuable.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: Beyond syntax, it’s about approaching challenges creatively.
- Leadership & Empathy: Understanding people makes you a better teammate and future leader.
💡 Remember: Your code may get replaced by AI, but your ability to lead, connect, and innovate never will.

My journey into coding started after joining the Software Engineering Department. I wanted to understand how the applications I used every day were actually built. At first, I wasn’t paying much attention to coding, and loops seemed complex when I saw them for the first time. But after a while, I started to like it and fell in love with building impactful projects meeting clients in Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa. The first time I wrote a small program and saw it run, I felt an incredible sense of empowerment, like I could build something out of nothing. Over time, that spark grew into a career, from creating scalable systems at Addis Software to contributing to high-impact financial platforms at Chapa.

Looking back, was there a single project or 'aha' moment in your career that truly solidified your path as a software engineer?

The moment I realized software engineering was truly my path came during a project where I solved a tough optimization problem and immediately saw the impact on users. It wasn’t just about writing code anymore it was about creating solutions that made people’s lives easier. Solving a big problem using technology and seeing someone use the result is the best feeling you’ll get.

At Addis Software, you achieved an impressive 55% performance boost using Redis caching. Could you walk us through that? What did the system look like before, what was the key bottleneck, and why was Redis the right tool for the job?
