Last year, as a freshman, I didn’t really care much about classes or exams 🤷♂️.
During my first semester, I barely studied for midterms mostly just scrolled on my phone 📱and only prepared properly for Mathematics during finals. I did it all on my own.
I had a friend who shared the same mindset. During finals, we didn’t even know which chapters were coming 😂. We walked in with just a pen and a phone but got seated right in front, under the teacher’s 🧑🏫 eyes, so we couldn’t even use it.
Result? Both of us got D’s, and my GPA dropped below 2.5 😬.
In the second semester, we came with a plan 😈 even studied the chair layouts 🏫 to hide our phones better. Around 27 students got caught and dismissed for cheating, but somehow, we made it through every exam undetected.
That time, I got mostly A’s and A+’s, with only two B+’s. My GPA jumped from 2.5 to 3.84, bringing my cumulative GPA to 3.17 .
It was wild I even fooled the examiner despite being reported 😝.
But now… things feel different.
I joined the Computing Department, hoping for Software Engineering or Computer Science, but ended up in IT.
Now I’m confused should I focus on self-learning and building skills 🧠 or just chase higher grades ?
Most seniors on our campus say the program is too theory-based, not much real-world coding.
So, Code Biruh Fam, what do you think I should do?
Stay focused on mastering my own path or aim for top scores? 🤔

Hey fam, let me share a bit about my life on campus 😊. I’m now a 3rd-year student. When I first arrived this year, I told my family not to send me any money 🙅♂️. And honestly, I’m learning to handle things on my own 🤞😜✌️. I stopped relying on them, even though what they were sending was enough 🤗.
But I thought, if I can work hard to earn even 1 Birr, why not try? 🤷♂️ Why should I make excuses for laziness? Am I not responsible for myself? 🧠🙄 Am I not a man? 🥸 How long should I stay a boy or act like a baby 👶?
I also decided to avoid distractions like messy relationships (not all are bad, but most take too much energy 💯) and wasting time on things like football ⚽️, movies 🎥, or random stuff. This is my time to grow, learn, and work on myself 📈.
Even though my family provides support, that doesn’t mean I should be lazy. I want to be independent 🧠👌. Plus, I promised myself to stop taking money from home when I turned 20 🙌. I started school at G1 when I was 5, skipped KG, and my parents taught me basics before I even started. Now I’m 19, in 3rd year, and will be 20 soon 😁.
I’m doing well in classes, my CGPA is not bad, and I’ve started small online businesses. Life is busy, but I love it here on campus 😇. I’m even planning to buy clothes for my parents when I go back home 🥰just imagining their reactions makes me so happy 🤌🤌🤌. Uffff 🥹🔥
Life is about responsibility, growth, and staying focused. That’s my vibe right now.

Okay, let me tell you about my uni life and how it went 😫. Honestly, life on campus has been a mix of stress, boredom, and some funny moments. Freshman year, in particular, was a rollercoaster 🤧.
I came from Addis Ababa with one of the best entrance exam scores from my school. I was considered a top student back home. Since I didn’t take the Addis Ababa University exam, I sat for the Campus entrance instead and got in. That’s where my story begins.
Midterms went okay, just a few bumps. But after midterms… I developed a crush on a classmate. Quiet, smart, and pretty. At first, I told myself, “Focus on your goals, ignore her, don’t get distracted.” But feelings don’t follow logic 😩. My friends would casually talk about their crushes, but it didn’t help me at all.
I tried messaging her “hey,” but she didn’t reply. Still, I couldn’t get her out of my mind. One day, we passed each other at the classroom door her scent, her smile… I was hooked 😫🤌. First semester ended, my GPA wasn’t too bad (3…), but my mind was elsewhere.
Second semester, destiny sat us in the same section again 🤧. I tried approaching her, but it didn’t work. She already knew, and later she told me straight: “Please, don’t interfere in my life.” 😭 Those words hit hard… Her curly hair, her vibe I couldn’t get over it. But she made it clear: “It’s none of your business.” Another blow.
Freshman year ended, my GPA was okay (thankfully), but I learned something important: religion and other differences can matter more than we think. Back then, I didn’t see it clearly, but now I do.
Despite all that, I truly loved her. Before joining campus, I never felt that way I just studied and played games. But everything changed here. Campus life can be tough 😫, but it also teaches you a lot about yourself and others.
Now, seeing her again on campus, life feels nostalgic and weirdly familiar. First-year memories hit differently 😅, but I’m learning to focus on myself and enjoy the journey.
