DEVELOPMENT GROWTH OF A NATION.
Development generally means the improvement in people's lifestyle through improved education, incomes, skills development and employment. For national development to take place, people must get a good education that improves all aspects of their lives. Stiglitz in Ezra {2008} asserts that "development is the transformation of society, a movement from traditional ways of thinking, traditional methods of productions to more modern ways". Development is determined by how countries are able go leap frog stage of economic growth by being able to modernize their production system and increase their competitiveness faster than in the past.
According to Harbison in Oladebo {1990} asserted that human resources are the wealth of a nation. Herbison said, "Human resources not capital nor income nor material resources constitute the ultimate basis of the wealth of nation. Capital and natural resources are passive factors of production; human beings are the active agents who accumulate capital, exploit natural resources, build social, economic and political organizations and carry forward national development. 'A country which is unable to develop the skill and the knowledge of its people and utilize then effectively in the national economy will be unable to develop anything else and nation building will be a mirage to such society. When an individual is gainfully employed either in self-employment or paid employment, productivity is enhanced and the Gross National Product is enhanced. With a favorable Gross National Product are hopefully a favorable balance of payment and a healthy income per capital, the nation is well on the way to self reliance and emergency of a great nation. It is believed that the more people are self employed, the stronger the economy and higher the standard of living and this goes a long way in determining the wealth of the society which in turn determines the development of that society. A wealthy society is one that is capable of meeting its economic, social, moral and political obligations.

Our leaders generally come into office with an all-conquering aura to solve all Nigerian problems "in one go" and they end up doing everything but completing nothing.
