Pennsylvania has new laws Implementation began in 2024

Eight of the bills, range from reforms to the criminal justice system to toughening stances on petty crimes:

Clean Slate Bill
The clean slate bill ensures individuals who receive a pardon, not just an expungement, will automatically have their criminal records cleared.

Probation Reform
The probation bill requires mandatory probation review conferences every 2 years, or 50 percent of the probation sentence, whichever comes sooner.

Judges are now instructed to have a "presumption against confinement" for minor violations, and that no one should be left in jail unless the violation was serious or they are a threat to public safety.

Porch Pirate Crackdown
Stealing a package off a front porch will is a felony in 2024.

Organized Retail Theft
A new law has established a special Deputy AG in PA to handle retail theft cases and lowers the monetary value.

The Deputy AG will oversee a team of prosecutors, throughout the state, tasked with prosecuting retail theft.

Military Personnel Residency
Individuals who are in the armed services will automatically be granted residency in Pennsylvania if stationed here. (Includes immediate families).

Preferred Organic Logo
PA stores will now feature local, sustainable products with a Preferred Organic logo, aiming to improve sales for PA farmers creating environmentally-friendly products.

Physical Fitness Standards Lowered For Police
Recruits must need to score only w/in the 30th%ile of the "Cooper standards," which generally correspond to the 30th%ile of the entire population.

School Bus Stop Enforcement
More law enforcement resources are provided to catch individuals who violate the school bus stop arm law.

Universities face tax-exempt status investigation over allowing ‘harassment’ of Jewish students

Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO), sent a letter to the presidents of Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, MIT, and Cornell regarding their tax exempt status as an investigation has been launched into the schools’ alleged “failure to adequately protect Jewish students from discrimination and harassment..”

The investigation was launched this week by the House Ways and Means Committee.

Letter excerpt:
“As you know, your institutions are aided by the beneficial treatment provided to nonprofit, tax-exempt entities…Your universities also receive funding from federal grants and appropriations, support for student loan assistance, lucrative financial benefits from your tax exempt status, and the advantageous tax treatment of your institutions’ endowments.”

“You may also be aware that there are certain standards your institutions must meet to receive this highly advantageous and preferential treatment…”

Hunter Biden was indicted on 9 new tax crimes Thursday

✔️Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty on charges related to his failure to file and pay income taxes.
✔️The appearance in LA is before U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi, who was appointed by then-President Donald Trump.
✔️Hunter Biden has already pleaded not guilty to gun charges in Delaware federal court.

Special Counsel David Weiss alleged Hunter "engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019, from in or about January 2017 through in or about October 15, 2020, and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020."

The special counsel alleged that Hunter "spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills," and that in 2018, he "stopped paying his outstanding and overdue taxes for tax year 2015."

Weiss alleged that Hunter "willfully failed to pay his 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 taxes on time, despite having access to funds to pay some or all of these taxes," and that he "willfully failed to file his 2017 and 2018 tax returns on time."

Google Updates 'Sensitive Events' Policy, Causing Mass Speculation About What's Coming in 2024

Google stated it is preparing to limit content based on “Sensitive Events” regarding what it will allow in advertising.

“In February 2024, Google will update the Inappropriate content policy to clarify the definition of Sensitive Events…”

Google also said it will not permit advertisers to price gouge or to use such events to “drive traffic” while “victim blaming” is also banned.

Google’s updated policy and apparent concern for upcoming “sensitive events” comes after CBS News reporter Catherine Herridge recently speculated about the potential for a “black swan event” this year.

Pennsylvania owes more than $5B to school districts, report says

A commission reviewing how #Pennsylvania distributes money to public schools approved a report that suggesting the state is underfunding districts by more than $5 billion and should begin immediately to close that gap.

Basic Education Funding Commission vote was backed by Democrats and members of Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro's administration.

Republicans and one Democrat on the commission opposed it, resulting in an 8-7 vote.

A key recommendation in the report said the state should immediately begin to close a school funding gap of more than $5 billion, phasing in the increased aid over 7 years.

EXPLOSIVE REPORT: Army Official Says Mark Milley Delayed National Guard Response to Jan 6 ‘Then Lied About It’.

Colonel Earl G. Matthews, senior legal adviser to Major General William J. Walker, who commanded the Washington D.C. National Guard told reporter Neil McCabe: “Milley controlled the Army”, arguing that while the Joint Chiefs boss lacked legal authority within the chain of command, he instead leveraged his profound influence and contacts in the Pentagon to delay the Guard’s response.

“The problem was not with Donald Trump; it’s Mark Milley and the Army leadership in control. They stopped the Guard from coming then lied about it and said the Guard acted at sprint speed,” Matthews explained.

“This is about civilian control of the military. There was none. There is none. I argue that — Mark Milley had more control over the D.C. Guard on Jan. 6 than Donald Trump did — if Donald Trump wanted to call the Guard to go to the Capitol, Milley wouldn’t let him do it.”

Senate GOP Border Deal Leaked: Migrants to Get Work Permits, Lawyers, Green Cards

Chris Chmielenski, president of the Immigration Accountability Project: “There’s nothing in there that [restricts immigration], in fact, it’s just going to encourage more people to come. It essentially authorizes the Biden administration to continue to catch and release people into the country. It authorizes them to give them work permits [to illegal migrants and] authorizes them to grant parole [legal status] to everybody that they’re able to funnel to a port of entry…”

Chmielenski detailed highlights of the bill’s provision in a post:

Border deal would:
1) Increase green cards by 50,000/year
2) Work permits for adult children of H-1B holders
3) Immediate work permits to every illegal alien released from custody
4) Taxpayer funded lawyers to certain UACs and mentally incompetent aliens
5) Expulsion authority for a limited number of days ONLY if encounters exceed 5k/day over a seven day period
6) Restricts parole for those who enter without authorization between ports of entry
