China Slaps American Defense Companies With Sanctions After Learning They Support Taiwan

China on Thursday announced rare sanctions against two U.S. defense companies over what it called their support for arms sales to Taiwan, the self-governing island democracy Beijing claims as its own territory to be recovered by force if necessary.

The announcement freezes the assets of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems held within China. It also bars the companies’ management from entering the country.

General Dynamics operates a half-dozen Gulfstream and jet aviation services operations in China. The company also helps make the Abrams tank being purchased by Taiwan.

General Atomics produces the Predator and Reaper drones used by the U.S. military.

China’s foreign ministry: “The continued U.S. arms sales to China’s Taiwan region seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, interfere in China’s internal affairs, and undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

An Afghan migrant on the terror watchlist spent nearly a year inside the U.S. after being apprehended and released by Border Patrol agents in 2023,

The Afghan national was arrested last month and then released again by an immigration judge who was not told he was a national security threat. 

Mohammad Kharwin, 48, is currently out on bond as he awaits an immigration hearing in Texas, scheduled for 2025. There are no restrictions on his movements inside the United States, U.S. officials said.

Kharwin is on the national terror watchlist maintained by the FBI. The database indicates he is a member of Hezb-e-Islami, or HIG, a political and paramilitary organization that the U.S. has designated a terrorist organization.

While the Biden administration has said it prioritizes migrants considered a threat to national security for detention and deportation, when asked about Kharwin's case, a spokesperson for DHS said, “While we can’t comment on ongoing matters, we are tracking closely and, as always, taking all necessary steps to ensure public safety."

Pennsylvania offering up to $15k stipends to student teachers to combat shortage

Gov. Josh Shapiro, along with other local officials, marked the launch of the Pennsylvania Student Teacher Support Program. 

The program will provide up to $15,000 stipends for eligible student teachers.

All eligible student teachers will receive $10,00 stipends, but those who teach in high-need areas will receive an additional $5,000. To support the program, the state must increase funding for the program to $75 million next year.

Those who receive a stipend must commit to teaching in Pennsylvania for at least 3 years.

And… Pennsylvania has been flooded with applications. Thousands of applications have been received for these first-ever student-teacher stipends have been received. Many times more than the number of stipends approved by lawmakers.

During the civil war, there was a soldier who lost both his brother and his dad to death on the same day.

He wanted to see the president and plead his case. He was given a pass to do so.

He went to the White House but was told by the guard on duty, “You can’t see the president, young man! Don’t you know there’s a war going on? The president is a very busy man!

Now go away, son! Get back out there on the battle lines where you belong!”

So the young soldier left, very disheartened, and was sitting on a little park bench not far from the White House when a little boy came up to him.

The lad said, “Soldier, you look unhappy. What’s wrong?”
The soldier looked at the little boy and began to spill his heart to him.

He told of his father and his brother being killed in the war, and of the desperate situation at home.

He explained that his mother and sister had no one to help them with the farm.

The little boy listened and said, “I can help you, soldier.” He took the soldier by the hand and led him back to the front gate of the White House.

Apparently, the guard didn’t notice them, because they weren’t stopped. They walked straight to the front door of the White House and walked right in.

After they got inside, they walked right past generals and high-ranking officials, and no one said a word.

The soldier couldn’t understand this. Why didn’t anyone try to stop them?

They reached the Oval Office—where the president was working—and the little boy didn’t even knock on the door. He just walked right in and led the soldier in with him.

There behind the desk was Abraham Lincoln and his Secretary of State, looking over battle plans that were laid out on his desk.

The president looked at the boy and then at the soldier and said, “Good afternoon, Todd. Can you introduce me to your friend?”

Todd Lincoln, the son of the president, said, “Daddy, this soldier needs to talk to you.”
