(A clarification on the earlier post)
I should've specified that tear gas doesn't linger in air. Rather it gets washed away into the water system, our food chain, and impacts the lives of humans as well as any other animal or plant in the vicinity of the tear gas deployment.
Tear gas can also stay in various HVAC systems that don't have fine particle filtration (which is pretty expensive to maintain and is only found in very expensive HVAC systems or in hospitals).
Tear gas particles can also seep into various porous material such as fabrics and last there for months/years.
Either way, we have very little understanding of the long term exposure to tear gas - and we're experimenting with it on people who are asking for equality and on people who simply live in the vicinity of the tear gas deployment.
