4. SE of Oleshnya, Kursk Oblast, 06 August.
I located the film of the🇺🇦SOF ambush and the likely nearby capture of six 488th Motor Rifle Regt soldiers - see the 3 tweets above.
Detonation at 51.116608, 35.180617.
@GeoConfirmed @UAControlMap
AT mines are shown being laid, but it's unclear if a vehicle is targeted, or if its Russians activating the AP mine/booby-traps shown. Note 2 POWs are later shown lightly WIA.
Film released 16 August. t.me/ukr_sof/1179

@Rambozzzee @GeoConfirmed @UAControlMapReplying to @UkraineNewsLive: I found a TG post linking 2 of the POWs that I recognised in the film. (those in tweet 1 and 2) and saw that a 3rd film was geolocated nearby, so I worked my way along that forest road and found that the strengthened road curve (pink) showed up on google. https://twitter.com/Spider18Actual/status/1820853736601997409#m

5. SE of Oleshnya, Kursk Oblast, 06 August.
I missed this earlier POW interview made in the front of the same trees that we see 'Calvin Klein POW' in tweet 1; so the same location.
From 17th Batt (488th MR Regt). He says he reported shelling to his command, and the neighbouring command, but no response occurred. h/t @vmanulik
He doesn't appear to be in the group of 6 POWs taken in tweet 3, so is likely a 7th capture in this area.
Film released 06 August. t.me/poisk_in_ua/70624

@99Dominik_ @GeoConfirmed @UAControlMap: A ok good find - it wasn't on @UAControl map when I checked that location this morning.

@GeoRaccoon @GeoConfirmed @UAControlMap: Thanks. good find - his geo wasn't on
@UAControl map when I checked that location this morning. I wasted few hours then looking at forest.

@666_mancer @Mortis_Banned: :) To Mortis. I'm not sure - but I think not all of the 488th is in Kursk. For sure its 2 connoscript battalions - 17th and 18th were in Kursk Oblast but some other parts maybe elsewhere.

RT @John_A_Ridge: 🇺🇦 🇷🇺 A claimed Russian Iskander-M strike against a Ukrainian M270 MLRS near Bezdryk, Sumy. It was presumably targeted while supporting Ukrainian operations in Kursk.

This is potentially the first observed M270 loss, excluding prior Russian claims based on potato UAV feeds.

RT @John_A_Ridge: Germany publicly retreating from security assistance commitments to Ukraine will have knock on effects.

It notably undermines the domestic political credibility of continued assistance from the United States. This is a profoundly shortsighted decision that may exact severe costs https://twitter.com/deaidua/status/1824714725873033648#m

Good thread. I will emphasize the point Fabian makes at the end: the Kerch Bridge is not a very important target right now. The opportunity cost of attacking it is extremely high. With Ukraine engaged in Kursk, any JASSMs they receive need to be in support of that operation. https://twitter.com/FRHoffmann1/status/1824778225350062296#m

RT @elisabethmalom1: Your girl is back in the @globeandmail this morning 🇨🇦 — After years of underfunding, it is high time #Canada’s lagging counterdrone industry gets the revamp it desperately needs to effectively defend its skies against UAVs. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-its-about-time-canadas-lagging-counterdrone-industry-gets-a-revamp/

@albertineK666: Media report is that it is being considered. It's likely a question of when, not if, at this point, but when could still be months away.
Colby Badhwar 🇨🇦🇬🇧 (Twitter)

@blankostrof @John_A_Ridge: That is cutting aid. Other countries are maintaining their bilateral assistance in addition to the loans from the Russian assets.
Colby Badhwar 🇨🇦🇬🇧 (Twitter)

@JE_codder: Kerch has very little in the way of strategic impact right now. Ukraine has hit it twice before and Russia just repaired it. Have people forgotten this?

RT @deaidua: Probably a very unpopular opinion today: Yes, today's reports are an unbelievable disgrace and Germany is taking a big step backwards in its support for Ukraine.

BUT: To date, Germany has done more for Ukraine than any other country in Europe (judging by the provided military aid), despite its deep roots and great dependence on Russia (especially) in the first months of the full-scale invasion.

We are supporting the AFU with around €7 billion in 2024, billions more than other European countries. Even our €4 billion next year, would be a major contribution and one of the biggest in Europe.

Without Germany's contributions, Ukraine's air defence would be nowhere near what it is today. Germany paid for the first shells and the largest share of the Czech munitions initiative, and raised around €1 billion in additional assistance through its own initiative.

At a time when the US was facing huge budget problems for many months and tens of billions of US dollars in aid for Ukraine could not be approved, Germany took on a leadership role in the world and, in my opinion, did its best.

Criticism after today's news is justified and definitely welcome on my part. In my eyes, Scholz, like Lindner, has now finally crossed the line.

But anyone who talks today about Germany being ruled by pro-Russian politicians or that we were never there for Ukraine has no idea what they are talking about. Period.
Colby Badhwar 🇨🇦🇬🇧 (Twitter)

@blankostrof @John_A_Ridge: I don't know whether Germany will permit Ukraine to use those funds to procure defense articles or not. Some countries will and some (like Japan) will not; unclear where Scholz stands on this.
