RT @ChristopherJM: Ukraine and US say in joint statement that they’re reached a new draft peace deal.

“As a result of the discussions, the parties drafted an updated and refined peace framework.”

Statement says: “The talks were constructive, focused, and respectful, underscoring the shared commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.
Both sides agreed the consultations were highly productive. The discussions showed meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps. They reaffirmed that any future agreement must fully uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and deliver a sustainable and just peace.”

Notably, after Trump’s all caps false comment earlier saying Ukraine’s leadership had shown no gratitude: “The Ukrainian delegation reaffirmed its gratitude for the steadfast commitment of the United States and, personally, President Donald J. Trump for their tireless efforts aimed at ending the war and the loss of life.”

RT @ChristopherJM: What I'm hearing from President Zelensky's team is that negotiations have been tough but they feel they are making actual progress in the talks with the Americans. As for Zelensky going to Washington, this has been something being considered in the president's office since last week when this new Trump push began. There are two camps: one that thinks Zelensky needs to go to DC to hash this out with Trump in person; another that fears it could go awry like part meetings and lead to a serious setback. Whether Zelensky goes to Washington again will depend on the outcome of talks and if the Ukrainians believe there is something they can sign their name to without selling the country down the river.

For everyone saying Ukraine will easily lose the Donetsk Region to Russia, since Russia occupied 5,700km2 in Donetsk within 19 months, and Ukraine now controls 5,335km2 in Donetsk

The cities and villages Russia has occupied in the past 19 months in Donetsk, had a pre-war population of ~285,000, meanwhile, the territory Ukraine controls in Donetsk has a pre-war population of 580,000, or 2 times the size of what Russia took in the past 19 months, with half of the population concentrated in 2 large cities, Kramatorsk and Slovyansk

Russia was 1 field away from Pokrovsk in Mid-December 2024. It took Russia 11 months and almost all of 2025 to enter and capture a city with a pre-war population of 60,000
