Reading the news last day felt like watching a real-time TV series. The CEO of the world's most important AI company was fired by the board in the middle of the AI revolution.
I read a dozen articles from business media, so you don't have to. In this post, I will recap the key facts and share some thoughts on the situation.
So, the Open AI board of directors fired Sam Altman from the CEO position. The reason for that? Most likely, the power struggle between cofounders, caused by a misalignment of views on the company's future.
Altman wanted to build more powerful AI products faster. He announced starting working on GPT-5 days after the major product update of ChatGPT, the Open AI flagship project. Moreover, he wanted to raise tens of billions of funding from Masayoshi Son and Middle Eastern investors to build a vertically integrated AI company to produce its own chips and AI-driven device.
Open AI cofounder and chief scientist Ilya Sutskever instead was committed to Open AI's original mission: to build a safe AGI aligned with societal values. That misalignment between cofounders caused a power struggle: Sutskever was appointed head of an AI safety project after internal debates, but his role in the company diminished.
So, who actually fired Altman? We must look at the unusual Open AI corporate structure to answer this. The company was started as a non-profit in 2015, committed to researching and building a safe AGI that would empower humanity. In 2019, the company created a for-profit subsidiary that could attract external funding to build new large language models like GPT-3 and actually make money.
Just a few days ago, its board of directors included six members: three Open AI cofounders - Altman, Brockman, and Sutskever, and three independent directors appointed by Open AI non-profit org - the CEO of answers site Quora Adam D'Angelo, tech founder and scientist Tasha McCauley, and AI safety expert Helen Toner.
Notably, no investors were among the board members. Elon Musk left the board in 2018, citing a conflict of interest with Tesla. Reid Hoffman left the board in March 2023, citing a conflict of interest with his ventures: he is a cofounder at Inflection AI and an investor in AI startups through his VC firm, Greylock. Microsoft doesn't have a seat on the board even after investing $10bn into the company.
All three external directors were prominent supporters of AI safety ideas. Together with Sutskever, they had a majority of votes and fired Altman from the CEO position. Open AI's cofounder and president, Greg Brockman, also left the company after learning the news, and at least three senior researchers followed him.
The board's move was a surprise not just for Altman and Brockman but also for the company's biggest investor, Microsoft. According to reports, CEO Satya Nadella was furious and blindsided by the news.

Їм не подобається те, що їх рекламні пости з'являються поруч з мемами про нацизм і цитатами Гітлера.
Також і сам Маск антисемітську шизу постив нещодавно.
Тож тепер Твіттер залишився щонайменше без реклами від: IBM, Apple, Lionsgate, Disney, Paramount, Comcast та інших. Список, я думаю, буде поповнюватися.
І без того збиткова платформа, стане ще більш збитковою.

Мене називали луддитом через те, що я не хочу встановлювати собі застосунок «Дія» та і взагалі будь-яким чином комунікувати з державними цифровими сервісами, і запевнювали, що «Дія» не зберігає особисті дані», а «важливість кібербезпеки перебільшена».
Звичайно, я вже бачив свої особисті дані у злитих базах банків а-ля «Приват», але сьогодні я переконався, що ніхуя я не луддит і що більше не підійду до державних цифрових сервісів на гарматний постріл, поки це буде можливо (хоча це вже і втратило будь-який сенс).
Марлезонський балет у 4-х актах:
1) Десь наприкінці 2021 року я почав планувати зі своїм другом поїздку до Ісландії. Як ви пам'ятаєте, тоді це можна було зробити виключно з діючим ковід-сертифікатом, який, в тому числі, можна було отримати та згенерувати у застосунку «Дія».
2) Оскільки до «Дії» у мене довіри ніякої не було і немає, я скористався порадою Шона Таунсенда за посиланням. Якщо стисло, то важливими є два основні моменти:
- у жодному разі не ставити додаток «Дія», а відразу йти на портал;
- Якщо вас турбує безпека ваших даних, ви можете ввести лівий телефон, лівий email, і ліву адресу проживання.
3) Я вказую ліву адресу проживання. Важливо - це єдиний раз, коли я десь вказував саме цю ліву адресу проживання.
4) Сьогодні я скористався функцією Google One під назвою «Звіт із темної мережі». Результат - на скріншоті.
Тільки портал «Дія» «знав», що я «проживаю» на вулиці Героїв Крут у Старому Базарі.

Окей, а вот теперь меня ударило в паранойю по поводу Инстаграма и слежки по настоящему)) Лог событий:
1. Вчера я искал контакт по имени Х в аппке телеги для мака
2. В процессе я открыл контакт хозяйки (арендодателя) одной из прошлых квартир (из 2017 года примерно), которую тоже зовут Х. Там была аватарка с фото.
3. На следующий день (сегодня) инста рекомендует мне свежесозданный аккаунт с именем типа tarolog_zalupa, и с ЭТОЙ ЖЕ БЛЯТЬ ФОТКОЙ на аве (к сожалению провтыкал заскринить, теперь хз как найти рекомендации опять)
Никаких контактов до этого с ней или с инфой относительно нее не было собсно с 2017 года. ПИЗДА
Т.е. получается скомпроментировано что-то из этого:
1. Аппка телеги на маке
2. Изображение на экране
3. Кэш изображений в файловой системе
4. Вводимый текст в макоси
5. Моя кукуха
UPD: Оказалось просто совпадение лол. Она завела акк примерно в то же время как я о ней вспомнил. ъуъ сука
