We advertise on X and have done so for many years now (well, it was Twitter for most of that period). Indeed we can confirm that we saw a big change happen around a couple of months ago or so - sometime towards the end of last year.

Our ads started getting literally orders of magnitude more traffic - we reduced the bids by a factor of 30x (no typo - that's thirty) and were surprised to see them taken up to the budget limit completely... we ended up spending a minor fraction of what we spent before for a lot more traffic.

So far, so good, right? Not so much. None of the traffic converted anymore. All useless. I can't remember the last actual conversion from X our conversion tracking software recorded at this point... weeks ago for sure. Formerly we got several a day.

Xiaomi does not want to make the bootloader unlocking process to be automatic. Instead, you need to request the unlocking of your device’s bootloader, which is then reviewed by Xiaomi employees. If your request is deemed reasonable, you can proceed to unlock your device’s bootloader.

With a new policy in place, Xiaomi will now only evaluate bootloader unlocking requests on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00 and 16:00. This will be the case every week, meaning you won’t be able to unlock anytime you want.

However, please note that this restriction applies for only the Chinese devices, it’s still worth mentioning how Xiaomi moves on in China.

Короч оказалось ЕДРПОУ было неправильное (оно не подтянулось по номеру счета). Сообщить мне об этом ессно банк нужным не посчитал.

Окей, эпопея с приватом не заканчивается) В итоге мне нужно было опять обратиться в саппорт по другой теме, и у меня опять отвалилась авторизация через аппку. В саппорте сказали что это так и надо, и у меня все какое-то время не будет работать потому что это новый девайс и нужна "история работы с девайсом" неопределённой длительности, чтобы они стали ему доверять.

Надо просто перетерпеть))

Тем временем Notion при поиске в документе не ищет внутри Toggle нод, если они collapsed (типа Toggle list). Парам парам пам, удачи найти что-то если у тебя их 15 блять.

Уууух блять, поиск во встроенной маковской проге для PDF поломаный нахуй, приключения продолжаются
(если вводишь несколько слов через пробел, он ищет каждое слово отдельно, и кавычки не работают)

It was extra hilarious when asked to generate a picture of ancient Greek philosopher it made it a Native American. Because it is well known Greeks not only had contact with the new world but also had prominent population of Native Americans.

It really wants to mash the whole world to a very specific US centric view of the world, and calls you bad for trying to avoid it.

It's very strange that this would leak into a product limitation to me.

I played with Gemini for maybe 10 minutes and I could tell there was clearly some very strange ideas about DEI forced into the tool. It seemed there was a clear "hard coded" ratio of various racial / background required as far as the output it showed me. Or maybe more accurately it had to include specific backgrounds based on how people looked, and maybe some or none of other backgrounds.

What was curious too was the high percentage of people whose look was specific to a specific background. Not any kind of "in-between", just people with one very specific background. Almost felt weirdly stereotypical.

"OH well" I thought. "Not a big deal."

Then I asked Gemini to stop doing that / tried specifying racial backgrounds... Gemini refused.

Tool was pretty much dead to me at that point. It's hard enough to iterate with AI let alone have a high % of it influenced by some prompts that push the results one way or another that I can't control.

How is it that this was somehow approved? Are the people imposing this thinking about the user in any way? How is it someone who is so out of touch with the end user in position to make these decisions?

Makes me not want to use Gemini for anything at this point.

Who knows what other hard coded prompts are there... are my results weighted to use information from a variety of authors with the appropriate backgrounds? I duno ...

If I ask a question about git will they avoid answers that mention the "master" branch?

Any of these seem plausible given the arbitrary nature of the image generation influence.

Re: Google Pay app will no longer be available

So in the beginning there was Android Pay, which later became Google Pay in the US and Europe.

For India, Google launched an app called Tez (and later renamed Google Pay) there which was more adapted for the India market, doing things like phone number identities and UPI integration.

This worked so well in India, that they promoted the head of the India app to be in charge of payments everywhere, and so his plan was to replace the global Google Pay with Indian Google Pay. They started with this in the US, and it flopped hard, both in terms of uptake and reviews. It turns out in many non-India markets (including the US) people don't really want to accept the tradeoffs of phone number identities for anything that doesn't directly compete with their SMS app.

So the leader responsible resigned, and the new leadership instead updated the old global Google Pay as Google Wallet. India stuck with Google Pay (formerly known as Tez) since that worked there, and the rest of the world never moved from Google Pay (fka Android Pay) to Google Pay (fka Tez), so only had a single Google Pay at one time. However, Google had now split their userbase across two apps so was scared to shut either there, so the US stayed in limbo for two years.

This is now resolving the US based limbo by shutting down Google Pay (fka Tez) in the US, so that the US joins Europe in only using Google Wallet (fka Google Pay fka Android Pay).

In short:

Before:

- India: Google Pay (fka Tez)

- Europe: Google Pay (fka Android Pay)

- US: Google Pay (fka Android Pay) and GPay (fka Tez)

After:

India: Google Pay (fka Tez)

US & Europe: Google Wallet (fka Google Pay fka Android Pay)
