Фермеры предупредили мир о полном исчезновении бананов из-за нового заболевания растений. Это штамм высокоинфекционного почвенного гриба Tropical Race 4 (TR4), который не поддаётся действию химикатов.
Его впервые обнаружили в 2019 году в Южной Америке, откуда закупает бананы весь мировой рынок. Через некоторое время в Колумбии и Гондурасе закрылись несколько плантаций — фермеры разносили заражённую почву на обуви.
Заболевание чаще всего поражает сорт бананов Cavendish, который и едят в 95% случаев.
