The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is requesting comments on their proposed revisions to its recovery planning guidelines.

A banking recovery plan is a document that outlines the process of recovery banks will undergo after a time of stress on the banking system. It will be a set of guidelines that will help them restore the vital functions of banking operations.

Here are the guidelines that banks are to follow:

* "Expand recovery planning guidelines to apply to banks with at least $100 billion in assets;

* Incorporate a testing standard for recovery plans;

* Clarify the role of non-financial risk (including operational and strategic risk) in recovery planning."

Public comments are expected 30 days after publication to go into the Federal Register. It is good to see the OCC working on the final touches of a recovery plan for the new banking system. It gives us an indication that this is a planned event with surprises and expectations that we will see the other side.
