Today's deer fact: Deer have an incredible sense of smell, constantly licking their noses to keep them moist and enhance scent detection, and they are most active at dawn and dusk to avoid predators, using their excellent hearing and that keen nose to stay alert, even while sleeping in short bursts.

Deer fact of the day: While people see color on a broad spectrum, deer mostly pick out short blue and middle green wavelengths of color; they show much less sensitivity to reds and oranges. This essentially means that deer are red- green colorblind.
