Today while I was in class, a friend sent me a voice message on WhatsApp. but I couldn’t listen to it. A few minutes later, another friend sent another voice message on tg, and I replied, “I’m in class, I can’t listen to this right now 😭😭.”
Then she said, “Why don’t you just build a bot that converts voice messages into text?”
And I think about it quickly😅 so after class, I sat down and started building it.
Finally, booom. I made a tg bot that turns voice messages, when you can’t listen to voice messages.
(Only drawback: it doesn’t support Amharic yet 😭, but hey, I just built this for fun, guys 😄)
and also I'll put the amharic if you guys buy a pro😉

Last year, I had an idea for a delivery system, like tracking and ordering for AAU students. It could help a lot of students and even let them earn some money. I did my research, and it was solid but, I hesitated. I didn’t put it into action.
Yesterday, my friend sent me a video showing that students at hawassa or bahirdar campus had actually implemented the same idea and turned it into a start-up!
The moral of the story, ideas are like turns in a game. If you don’t act on them, someone else will.
Your ideas only matter when you do something about them. that project sitting in your notebook? someone else might bring it to life if you wait too long.

One new lesson I learned while building this, vercel don't support a long polling server based connection it is serverless structure only execute a code when ever there is a request, but telegram bot work by default in yhe long polling concept so I have to change it into a web hook.
We just run this code locally once then telegram will register it and when someone send a message it will call the api endpoint on vercel, rather than the long polling bot.

import { bot } from "./bot.js";
const WEBHOOK_URL = "https://voice-to-text-bot.vercel.app/";
const setWebhook = async () => {
try {
await bot.telegram.setWebhook(`${WEBHOOK_URL}`)
} catch (err) {
console.log(''err happened', err.message)
}
};

"Don't watch tutorials, start building projects"
A lot of developers say this, but honestly, I think it's a bit overrated. Watching tutorials, especially conceptual ones is one of the best ways to truly understand how things work behind the scenes.
I'm not saying building projects is useless. In fact, it’s one of the most important habits every developer should carry. But for me, I prefer watching tutorials, reading documentation, and asking ChatGPT to really grasp the core concepts and how everything works and then I'll start workin on projects.
