A well-known example is Abu Abdullah al-Kosova (Lavdrim Muhaxheri), the leader of the Kosovo Albanian Islamic State (IS) and recruiter of ethnic Albanian jihadist foreign fighters who fought in Syria and Iraq. He was a former KFOR and NATO operative and recruited jihadis at Camp Bondsteel. He left for Syria in late 2012 and was killed there in 2017.
