I have visited Father Daniel (and his monastery) several times in 2018 and 2019.
A message from him:
As a foreigner in Syria, I cannot speak in the name of the Syrian people or in the name of a Syrian community. However, my stay of almost a decade and a half in Syria has made me understand many similarities with the testimony we gave above. The inhabitants of Qara also know well that their ancestors were Christians but had to become Muslims under Ottoman pressure.

It is said that a bishop from Qara was present at the first ecumenical council in Nicaea (325). Of the ten mosques, one is considered the main mosque, although it is far from the largest. This “great mosque” is a former church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas and it is still clearly visible. We ourselves have never experienced any hostility between Muslims and Christians.

We often simply give small children, even those of Muslim parents, a cross on their foreheads. We have never seen a mother angrily withdraw or protest her child. We have also never met fanatical Muslims in Syria, while the country now seems to have been infiltrated by fanatical Muslims.

After the terrorist attack on the Mar Elias church in Damascus, Muslims also protested against this and lit candles in their mosques. That is the true nature of the Syrian people. Many Syrian Muslims around us seem to have preserved Christian values ​​deep in their hearts. May a similar movement of return to Eastern Christianity arise in Syria too.

The former Western Christian civilization also urgently needs a return to its original faith. The West has lost its north. It has severed its roots and can therefore no longer produce good fruit. It goes from war to war, while blaming others for it. Countries such as Russia and Hungary seem to be able to offer the strongest, courageous resistance to the imposed European perversions. They appear to remain faithful to their Christian past.
