When I interview Senior SW Engineers and EMs:
I ask them to break down how they spend their time in the current job, into actual %.
Candidates who claim they spend 100% of their time coding signal juniority to me.
They're missing a lot of important tasks I'd expect from them. Sometimes I follow up with the question "Walk me through a feature's life cycle in your company, and all your interactions from planning to release".
I expect they participate in:
- Architecture decisions
- Effort estimation
- Code review
- Testing
- Etc
