Anytime you "go" to a webpage, you request its content. You may as well choose not to request it. Same is true for ads. You do not "block" ads, you simply refuse to request them.

That being said, imagine paying Google for not showing you ads (which you can simply not request - for free), and then they show it to you anyway?
