Buddhanussati, one of the four protective meditation, is recollections of the qualities of the Buddha, namely, araham (the perfect one who has eliminated all the defilements, or someone who has reached the state of great purity and perfection), Sammasambuddho (fully enlightened), Vijjacarana-sampanno (impeccable in conduct and understanding), Sugato (well farer), Lokavidu (the knower of the worlds), Anuttaro purisadamma-sarathi (who is unrivalled in taming those who are untamed), Sattha deva-manussanam (teacher of gods and humans), buddho (awake) and bhagava (the Blessed One).

Buddhism has long been an important part of the cultural heritage of South East Asia. monuments of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Borobudur in Indonesia are just two of countless testimonies to the former greatness of Buddhism in this region. In Singapore too Buddhism is an important element in the cultural heritage of the people.
The fact that a large section of the Chinese Community as well as the small but influential Srilankan Community acknowledge Buddhism as the primary force shaping their religious ideals and moral values is more than proof of this. Nonetheless, it is certain that if Buddhism is to continue to exercise a positive influence upon present and future generations, it cannot remain content with the achievements of the past. The religious ideals and moral values of Buddhism which have proved so useful to past generations must be transmitted to men and women living in a changing world. In order that this can be accomplished, it is important that the teachings of the Buddha be made available to the largest number of people.
With this objective in mind, the Srilankaramaya Buddhist Temple invited Dr Santina to deliver a series of public lectures. The lectures outlined the fundamentals of Buddhism and were well delivered. As a result, it was decided to produce trannoscriptions of the lectures and publish them in the form of a book to be made freely available. It is also hoped that the publication will contribute in a small degree to the understanding of the genuine teachings of the Buddha.

Talks, essays, poems, drawings and photographs from the community at Wat Pah Nanachat, a Thai forest monastery of Theravada Buddhism established by Ajahn Chah.
Wat Pa Nanachat has published many books over the years — in English and in Thai — but never a newsletter. This year we decided to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of a conservative wat by breaking with tradition. So many people contributed to the project however, and with such enthusiasm, that a sambhavesi newsletter finally entered the world of print as this 250 page book.
Rather than giving a historical review of the last twenty-five years, the following pages provide more of a present-moment snapshot of Wat Pa Nanachat. The articles come from a broad cross-section of the community from the abbot to the most newly ordained novice.
The book opens with excerpts from two chapters of ‘Water Still, Water Flowing’, Ajan Jayasàro’s forthcoming comprehensive biography of Ajan Chah’s life and teaching. The other pieces are by senior theras, majjhima and nàvaka monks, novices and two lay supporters. To give a visual impression of monastic life, the book also contains a number of photographs and a selection of illustrations by Ajan Abhinàno.

More recently. he has taught the timeless Buddhist philosophy to Westerners from all walks of life, led meditation groups in Australian prisons, and counselled the distressed, the sick and the bereaved.
