^ I have always theorized why rural white Southerners have a pessimistic perspective or fatalistic view of their plight has much to do with the weird Semitic notions of the 'Rapture" from which all of their deeds or Dispensation are tied up into a Tribulation. This Tribulation being that whatever "wrath" or "rewards" will be doled out to the righteous. To me this makes most rural white Southerners passive to their present condition and so they embrace passive nihilism instead of the more active form of nihilism.
