I am not a person belonging to haplocope culture but recently i was asked whether R haplogroup came from south Asia

Answer is no

R haplogroup and it's branches are well spread in caucasoid world.

We have well known ancestor of R haplogroup aka K2B which is also known as P haplogroup .

Oldest K2b aka P haplogroup was found in tianyuan sample of china.Now do not confuse this with modern east asians because tianyuan lacked edar gene responsibile for monolid eye structure.

Also China is more closer to west eurasian world than south asia hence it makes more sense P haplogroup came from such region which is ancestor of R

Some south asian nationalists who make excuse of defending hinduism are doing mental gymnastics about this haplogroup which is not supported by scientific community
