Is there a chance to steal a space station from orbit? Soviet scientists believed this was the case with the American Space Shuttle, which was created in 1969. Shortly after the Shuttle launch, the Soviets equipped their station with a cannon. But was it even possible to fire a cannon in outer space? Is there a way to protect the space station from being knocked out of orbit due to recoil?

Tangier: Vanishing Island / 2013

Tangier Island, Virginia, is so tiny it’s hard to spot it on a map. Located in the middle of Chesapeake Bay, it is home to less than 500 people. It’s among the most isolated communities in the US. Generations of Tangier residents have earned their livelihood from catching fish, crab and oysters for nearly 250 years. However, their unique community is threatened by climate change and rising sea levels. With nine acres going underwater each year, Tangier Island is predicted to erode by 2050.

Rwanda Women in Charge / 2018

Uneducated and poor women still struggle to find jobs and fear domestic violence.

The original name of the most famous painting by Kazimir Malevich is actually not ‘Black Square’, but ‘Black Supremacist Square’. But, that’s not the only peculiar information about the masterpiece…

1. It’s not a square – and it’s not black

Malevich’s black square is actually not a square at all: none of the sides are parallel to each other nor the frame of the painting. Technically, it’s just a rectangle.
And it’s not black. Malevich used a special solution of paints, in which there was not a single black one, so the name of the painting does not quite correspond to reality.

Migingo: The Iron-Clad Island / 2015

Metal shacks cover the tiny island, making it look like an iron-plated turtle. Although there are bigger islands a stone’s throw away, locals don’t rush to populate them, as they believe they are inhabited by evil spirits.
