Finland’s Supreme Court is deciding whether quoting the Bible counts as a war crime.

The case targets Lutheran Bishop Juhana Pohjola and parliament member Päivi Räsänen for publicly stating that men and women are different, and citing the Bible to prove it.
Räsänen first landed in hot water back in 2019 after tweeting a Bible verse to criticize her state church for sponsoring a pride parade.
That tweet kicked off years of investigations, 3 criminal charges against her, and one against Pohjola for publishing her booklet Male and Female He Created Them.
Prosecutors now want the internet scrubbed of their writings, claiming even “harmless speech” should be criminalized.
2 lower courts already cleared both of them, but the prosecutor appealed, all the way to the country’s highest court.
If convicted, they could face 2 years in prison under laws meant for crimes against humanity.
Critics say the case could effectively criminalize Christianity in Finland and set a dangerous precedent across Europe.
Räsänen says she won’t apologize:
