That’s what they guy who sold the Eiffel tower did, twice, as did the guy who sold the Brooklyn Bridge, many times

Extremely old, extremely effective con

Sometimes called the “Selling the Brooklyn Bridge scam”, or “false noscript scams”

I’d more generally refer to it as “provenance” scams — offers involving some genuinely great project or thing, but which do not actually originate from the creators or owners of that thing at all, but rather from some totally unrelated nobody scammers, who will pocket nearly all the money, leaving the real owners unpaid or unfunded, and leaving the noscript or whatever they supposedly sold as worthless

Now, what I told you that this happens all the time in crypto too?

— One of the most common scams facing crypto investors today, and almost none even realize it

You probably even lost money to such scams, without even realizing this real primary cause

Why is it so wildly effective?

(1) Realizing - almost no one even realizes such a scam exists

(2) Laziness - even when they do realize it’s a possibility, ~100% of people are too f&cking lazy to actually check every link in the chain, most just check 1 or 2 links, and then if those check out they assume that the rest must too

(3) Difficulty - it’s often genuinely exhausting to do properly and not relying on hearsay, often having to check ~6 or so links deep, to properly establish that e.g. some claimed project owner is actually firmly tied to this token you’re looking at, and today’s AIs cannot automate task at all, at least not out of the box

(4) Tricks from real owners themselves - e.g. Tate, WhiteWhale, and many others often at first claiming that someone else made a coin, when clearly they did, clouding the waters further

(5) Tools needed — it’s not just about properly processing some information, but rather largely about getting the needed information in the first place , recursively using search and browsing tools many times to gather up that information. So, even the best AI and best AI prompts in the world, by themselves, are useless, because you just haven’t given the AI the tools it needs to get the needed verification information

= provenance scams flourish, almost entirely unencumbered

= Even when you find coin for a project or cause that is genuinely great and hugely undervalued, you still might accidentally buy a worthless unrelated coin

FWIW, classic investors often lazily bypassed this too, relying on the belief that if the noscript or whatever they bought turns out to not be legit, they can just sue to recover their money — But ofc this often failed as the cons illustrate, and this strategy becomes even more totally non-viable in anon crypto land.

So, that’s why yesterday and today I built a new AI to do this automatically for coins

AFAIK first ever to properly automate this in a way that actually works

(AI will often get it horribly wrong if you just prompt it to pls do this)
