UPDATE: The Hagerstown Police Department identified the police officer that was shot as K9 Officer Langley Dean, a 19-year veteran of the police department.

The suspect was arrested. During the course of a search, a shotgun was recovered.  It was determined that the suspect used a 20-gauge shotgun and fired on Officer Dean at close range. 

Officer Dean has a significant injury to his arm and was also struck in the shoulder, face, and head. He will need additional surgeries to repair the wounds and remains at Meritus Medical Center.
