Great Awokening is a global phenomenon. No evidence it started in US media. Analysis of 98 million news articles across 36 countries quantifies. Exception: state-controlled media from China/Russia/Iran using wokeness terminology to criticize/mock the West.

Different geographical regions and countries emphasize distinct types of prejudice with varying degrees of intensity.

But on average, mentions of all prejudice types have been going up in news media worldwide.

China, Russia and Iran state-controlled news media markedly increasing their usage of terms referring to some prejudice types within the last 10 years. Mostly to criticize (or mock, in the case of some Russian state-controlled media) alleged prejudice in the West.

United States news media does not appear to have been the pioneer in embedding prejudice and social justice loaded terminology in their content.

More evidence that increasing prominence of prejudice signifying terminology in news media content did not start in United States news media

Social justice terminology with mostly positive connotations (diversity, inclusion, equality, etc.) also going up everywhere and highly correlated with the upwards trend of prejudice-signifying terms and their highly negative emotional payload
