The majority sit quietly and dare to hope. Since you aren't guilty, then how can they arrest you? It's a mistake! They are already dragging you along by the collar, and you still keep on exclaiming to yourself: "It's a mistake! They'll set things straight and let me out!"

Just be truthful and sincere when dealing with bureaucratic machines bro

Say you are truly great / in the right, and you’re facing some human judges -- e.g. at a DUI checkpoint where you’re under the limit, or doing a university entrance essay where you truly are the best. Which approach have you usually taken in the past?
So yes, one of the most incredible human behaviors I’ve seen, that 99% of regular people do, is perfectly summarized in the first reply
“refuse to ever play their bullshit games bro. just go with your heart bro.”
I.e. refuse to learn from the mistakes of others, and just do what feels good to you
— Then THESE EXACT SAME people end up crying like a bitch, begging for someone to save them, after their approach inevitably wrecks them
They act totally surprise that just following their feels didn’t work out
Why do people do this?
(1) EGO: Huge over-inflated ego. You’re too good to play the game... But then you’re crying like a bitch when you lose because your ego was too big and you refused to play to win.
(2) LAZINESS: Pure laziness. Too lazy to find out what works, and do it.
(3) OVER-RELIANCE ON CONFIDENCE: Yes, confidence can be big in some sales and similar situations — But bro, sometimes it really is just satisfying a simple checklist and you cannot just BS confidence your way out of satisfying that routine checklist.
(4) BELIEF IN A JUST WORLD: Sorry that is pure lefty BS. Honest majority assumption is a core lefty belief. Belief that authorities are right is an authoritarian belief. Only lib-right has it right here — Majority of everyone everywhere is evil. No, just being yourself will not save you from evil systems. Yes, most large systems are evil. Adjust accordingly.
But mainly — Many don’t realize that
NEARLY EVERY STANDARDIED PROCESS IS JUST CHECKLISTS, FOR WHICH THERE IS ONLY ONE RIGHT ANSWER,
or only a narrow class of acceptable answers, and if you refuse to satisfy the checklist, for whatever reason — you’re done. No one’s coming to save you.
E.g.
+ Ivy league admissions essays, for most of the past decade — YOU HAD TO SIGNAL THAT YOU’RE A FLAMING LEFTY. Either do that or don’t waste your time trying at all, you idiot. Why are you wasting all this time trying if you’ll refuse to satisfy that checkbox? Guaranteed failure.
+ VC standard questions — same thing, bureaucratic checklist. Either find out the right answers, and be sure you can satisfy those, or don’t waste your time at all.
+ Visa / border crossing questions — another beurocratic checklist, that if you answer wrongly, you will have hell
NO, NONE OF THESE GAF ABOUT YOUR BS TRUE AUTHENTIC SELF
All of these things, and many more in life, are simple checklists that must be answered the right way or else your life will be hell and no one is coming to save you
What does work, particularly if you are legitimately good and in the right — is seeing what has actually worked for others, and then imitating what has worked
But 99% will refuse to ever do this,
Because of their big fat egos & false belief in a just world
But 99% are fools, who refuse until their graves to do the work to find out what actually worked for others, and just copy that
Copy what works, you lazy, egotistical losers, or else don’t cry and act surprised when it fails
Fool learns from his own mistakes
Wise learns from mistakes of others
99% are fools who refuse to learn from the mistakes of others, copy what the winners do

Find out what worked for winners, and then do as the winners do
Ya lazy big-headed morons who are full of endless excuses as to why not to do things this way
— Which I assure you, is 99% of people,
Surprisingly

Strangely enough,
This seems to have been the one solid contribution that Sam Altman ever made to YC,
Gather evidence of prospective founders being willing to break rules that don’t matter
— And then refusing to invest in anyone who refuses to break rules that don’t matter
Now, Sam later did some things poorly at OpenAI, IMO mostly just because he’s a self-admitted wordcel, and doesn’t see rotator way of doing things, which has significantly held back their models
Regardless, he was totally right on this one simple thing
YC was right to have this requirement
FWIW, seems in recent years they may have eliminated this, since being partially taken over by commies, as were most organizations — which really only further confirms its value
