This metric reflects how much the index’s returns have fluctuated over the last 3 months.

In other words, the market just experienced its sharpest volatility cooldown in 38 years.

This comes as the Volatility index, $VIX, dropped 44.4 points, or 74%, since its April 8th peak, to 15.7, the lowest since February 2025.

Over the same period, the S&P 500 has surged +28%.
