China Unveils Cyborg Bees for Military Use

Chinese scientists have created cyborg bees by attaching a 74-mg brain controller to real bees, allowing remote control via electrical pulses to their optic lobes.

The bees respond to flight commands—left, right, forward, back—with up to 90% accuracy.

The tiny device includes an infrared receiver and flexible microcircuits thinner than insect wings.

These bees can fly up to 5 km and carry payloads up to 80% of their weight, making them ideal for reconnaissance, surveillance, and search-and-rescue missions.

Unlike previous insect cyborgs, these bees offer better stealth, range, and mobility.

Key challenges remain—especially in battery tech and consistent behavior—but researchers are refining the system.
