Derlis Snaider Chusin Toaquiza, a 19-year-old high school student at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens, reunited with his family this morning at the Port Authority Bus Terminal after spending over a month in ICE detention.
Toaquiza was arrested by ICE on June 4 during a scheduled immigration hearing and transported to IAH Detention Center in Livingston, Texas on June 8. According to the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), he was held under harsh conditions—fed one meal a day and forced to sleep sitting up due to overcrowding.
