Four Alternative for Germany (AfD) candidates reportedly died suddenly two weeks before September local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The candidates identified:
-Ralph Lange, 66
-Wolfgang Seitz, 59
-Wolfgang Klinger, 71
-Stefan Berendes, 59
Elections scheduled for mid-September in 427 municipalities will require new ballots in affected areas despite some mail-in votes already cast.
Economics professor Stefan Homburg called the deaths "suspicious and statistically almost impossible".
The report notes AfD recently tied CDU/CSU at 25% in INSA polling.
No causes of death or official investigations reported.
