TIMELINE OF EVENTS:
Early Saturday Morning, around 3 a.m.
Logan Federico arrives at a rental home on the 2700 block of Cypress Street in Columbia with a friend after a night out. The home is commonly used by University of South Carolina students.
Shortly After Arrival
Federico is shot and killed inside the home. Police believe the suspect, Alexander Dickey, had just burglarized a neighboring home, stealing keys and several items, including a gun, before entering the rental next door.
The Shooting
Dickey allegedly steals a wallet and credit cards before firing the fatal shot and fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.
Later Saturday
Dickey drives to West Columbia, where police say he went on a "shopping spree" using stolen cards to make purchases at several stores in Lexington.
Saluda County
Dickey travels to Saluda County to make purchases with the cards, but the stolen vehicle breaks down. He contacts a towing company and has the car towed to the Gaston home of a female acquaintance. Authorities then start to track him.
Sunday, around 4 p.m.
A Lexington County resident reported seeing someone coming from the woods and stealing her vehicle. Dickey allegedly wrecked and began to run on foot.
Shortly After
Dickey allegedly broke into another home in Gaston, SC, and set it on fire. Lexington County Sheriff's Department deputies established a perimeter and attempted to have Dickey leave the home.
Sunday Evening
Once deputies saw smoke and fire coming from the home, they entered. Dickey was found inside the master bathroom of the home and taken into custody.
Currently
He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, where his bond has been denied.
He is also wanted by the Forest Acres Police Department on multiple warrants.
