Fasting & Praying Qiyam
“Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Al-Bukhari (2008) and Muslim (174)
also narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“Whoever spends the nights of Ramadan in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
The Muslims unanimously agreed that it is Sunnah to pray qiyam at night in Ramadan. Al-Nawawi said that what is meant by praying qiyam in Ramadan is to pray Tarawih, i.e., one achieves what is meant by qiyam by praying Tarawih.

Fasting of the limbs
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink."
Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 6057
In-book reference : Book 78, Hadith 87
USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 8, Book 73, Hadith 83
The month of Ramadan affords an ideal opportunity to better one’s morals. Whether it be controlling your temper, doing random acts of kindness towards strangers, or just smiling more, these good traits can become part of your life after the month ends.

“Fasting Is for Me”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that Allah says:
“Allah said: Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting; it is for Me and I shall reward for it. Fasting is a shield. When one of you is fasting, let him not engage in obscene speech or raise his voice in anger. If someone insults him or fights him, let him say: ‘I am fasting.’ By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the fragrance of musk. The fasting person has two joys: one when he breaks his fast and one when he meets his Lord because of his fasting.”
— Reported in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim

Ar-Rayyan: The Gate for Those Who Fasted
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Indeed, in Paradise there is a gate called Ar-Rayyan. Those who used to fast will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection, and no one else will enter through it. It will be said, ‘Where are those who fasted?’ They will stand, and none will enter through it except them. When they have entered, it will be closed, and no one else will enter through it.”

Ramadan Is About Taqwa
Allah says:
“O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous (have taqwa).”
(al-Baqarah 2:183)
Ramadan isn’t just about staying away from food and drink.
It’s about building taqwa — a deeper awareness of Allah.
Taqwa is choosing patience when you’re irritated.
Taqwa is lowering your gaze.
Taqwa is holding your tongue back from gossip.
Taqwa is remembering that Allah sees you — even when no one else does.
If all we gained from Ramadan was hunger and fatigue, we didn’t gain what truly mattered.
This month is meant to refine us, discipline the soul, and bring us closer to our Lord.
May this Ramadan increase us in taqwa and transform our hearts for the better. 🤍

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“(By fasting) one narrows the passageways of Shayṭān within the servant (of Allāh), by narrowing the passageways of food and drink. As well, it restrains the force of the limbs from giving way to its dominating nature of that which is harmful to it in this world and the hereafter.
And, (fasting) subdues every limb and might of the soul from (following its) whims, and harnesses it by its bridle.
For, surely (the fast) is the bridle of the muttaqūn [the righteous, those having taqwá] and the shield of the warriors [a shield between them and the Hell-fire].”
[Zaad al-Maʿad | 2/28-29]

A Month to Turn Back
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained.”
Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Think about what that means.
The doors of Jannah are open.
The doors of Hell are closed.
Even the devils are restrained.
If there was ever a time to let go of a bad habit, it’s now.
If there was ever a time to finally repent, it’s now.
Ramadan removes excuses. The environment is different. The distractions are lighter. Your heart is softer. So take advantage of it.
Turn to Allah sincerely.
Admit your mistakes.
Ask for forgiveness like you truly need it, because we all do.
Ramadan isn’t only a physical fast. It’s a chance to break free from the habits that have been weighing your heart down.
Allah has made the path easier this month. Take a sincere step toward Him.
May Allah forgive our sins, purify our hearts, and allow us to leave this Ramadan better than we entered it, Ameen 🤲🏻

Ramadān Reflections: Another Door Will Open, Trust His Decree
Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“Allāh does not close a door on a slave out of His wisdom except that He opens for him two doors out of His mercy.”
Reflection:
“Do not grieve over the doors of opportunity that closed, perhaps behind them was a test our faith was not meant to carry.
Let us trust the decree of Allāh; He withholds with wisdom and grants with mercy.
He knows what is best for us far better than we ever could.
Another door will open, perfectly timed, carrying the blessings our hearts are ready to receive.”
