Good Idea: Giving your company to the workers

https://www.forbes.com/sites/christophermarquis/2024/05/22/bobs-red-mill-securing-the-future-through-employee-ownership/

Bob and Charlee Moore started Bob’s Red Mill in 1978 with a simple goal: make wholesome food and take care of their people.
Instead of selling out to big corporations, Bob decided to share the company’s success with his employees by setting up an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) in 2010, making them all owners by 2020.
When employees own the company, they’re invested in its success, working harder and smarter, like when Bob’s team nailed a new shop floor project because they felt the pride of ownership. It also keeps the company independent, free from corporate takeovers, and ensures a smooth transition when founders like Bob eventually die, as seen in 2024.

For any small business, giving employees ownership can build loyalty, boost morale, and secure the company’s future. It’s a win-win: employees get a stake in the profits and a shot at a better retirement, while the business stays true to its roots.
