Nothing could be more naïve than to imagine that Donald Trump's effort to put the military on the streets of US cities has anything to do with "fighting crime." He himself is very clear: this is an act of war against the part of the population that does not support his autocracy.

No political party is going to protect us. We must build the capacity to defend ourselves through grassroots initiatives or watch powerlessly as his mercenaries come for our neighbors one after another until they finally come for us.

Gather the people you trust and discuss what kinds of action you are prepared to take together. The fascists are not in a position to triumph over us unless we remain passive. Get organized. 🏴

Good Idea: know how to set up a "burner phone"
https://rebeccawilliams.info/burner-phone-101/

Start with risk modeling by asking three questions:
- what are you protecting?
- who are you protecting it from?
and
- what happens if it fails?

This helps you focus on the protections that matter most and consider risks not just to yourself but to your network.

For smartphones, recognize that device IDs and data collection make full anonymity impossible, but you can still improve privacy:
- keep your device and system updated,
- use a strong PIN instead of biometrics,
- disable cloud backups in favor of encrypted ones,
- install a secure messenger if needed (signal, threema, conversations, delta chat),
- limit app permissions,
- keep radios off unless needed, and store as little sensitive data as possible.
Android users should:
- disable Google Location History,
- turn off ad personalization,
- restrict Gemini or Google Assistant,
- consider Firefox, Brave, or F-Droid,
- and if high risk, switch to GrapheneOS or CalyxOS.

iPhone users should
- enable Ask App Not to Track,
- restrict Siri,
- set devices to erase after failed attempts,
- and use Lockdown Mode when needed.

For burner phones,
- buy in cash,
- avoid sharing identifying details,
- set up on public Wi-Fi,
- use no personal accounts,
- keep permissions minimal,
- rotate SIMs,
- and treat the phone as disposable.

When risks are highest, going without a phone may be the safest choice. (Wi-Fi tablets might be an option)

Alternatives include using
- paper maps,
- written contacts,
- preset meeting points,

Tools like Faraday bags, airplane mode, and full power-downs can reduce exposure, but the strongest protection is minimizing what your device carries in the first place.
