With all eyes on Gaza, Israel expands its seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank, announcing the biggest land grab for the settlers in more than 30 years. The endeavor is spearheaded by Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who himself is living in a settlement built on stolen Palestinian Lands.

Smotrich, who became in charge of the planning procedures in the West Bank, took that rule, which the minister of defense handled before June 2023. Israel has built more than 160 settlements with more than 700,000 settlers living in it, in the Bank and East Jerusalem, killing any future for a Palestinian state.

In March 2023, a report by UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk stated that Israel’s continuous expansion of settlements amounts to the transfer by Israel of its own civilian population into the territories that it occupies, which amounts to a war crime under international law.

Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have gained control of large parts of the eastern state of Sennar and are preparing to attack the Blue Nile state. This comes after they recently captured the city of Dinder. As the RSF continues to advance, people are fleeing in search of safety. Reports of looting and civilian attacks by the RSF continue to emerge.

The Sudan conflict has only gotten worse since it started in April 2023. Over 17,000 people have been killed since then, while 7.7 million people have been internally displaced and 16.4 million children alone are facing starvation.

On this day, 11 July 1989, a huge strike began of miners in the Soviet Union demanding better food supplies, cleaner working conditions, adequate housing, better care of the environment in mining areas, and rights to share management of the mines. In March, two brief strikes occurred at the Lidiieka and Kirov mines in Donbass, Ukraine. In July a much bigger strike began in both the Donbass and the Kuznetsky basin in Western Siberia. Within a few days, the strike had grown to 100,000 workers, and threatened to become a general strike when sympathy strikes began. Most miners had returned to work by July 25, after officials agreed to most of their demands. These included more meat and soap, rights to share management and profits in the industry, and increases to pay, vacation time and other benefits.More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/7730/soviet-miners-strike* If you enjoy our social media posts be sure to check out our podcasts.
